it was just a good car with an automatic box for her (seeing as that is all she can drive). Why should she - at 81 with only a state pension but in good health and independent - be taxed off the road? Think of the implications - it is nothing short of scandalous. I'm fuming Banging Head

PeteS,

Your post about four slots above (I've just highlighted the beginning and end of it for reference), just about nails this whole sorry story as far as Im concerned. I'm in exactly the same position as you as regards the small automatic as Mrs Avtur only drives autos. Wish they'd stop treating us like mugs and idiots.

A lot of the chaps over on Disco3, bought 12 months tax, and returned the current disc for a refund to offset the rise for another year. Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

dates

The key dates for the road tax hikes appear to be Mar 2009 & 2010. Evil or Very Mad I'll let you do the sums to see if it's worth trading in your part used road tax disc (assuming this isn't outlawed by then)! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

stop / start

The FL2 incorporating Stop / Start technology will be almost impossible to retrofit to existing vehicles as it will utilise a second AGM type battery to run the lights (night time) heaters etc, some of the drawbacks are that it will not work when the aircon is on (Global warming seems to be hiding behind the clouds again this year) so not too relevant for us Brits; and it will not operate when the rear demister is on during winter months....possibly a different setup with the auto box versions using regen braking and switching off alternator when battery is fully charged......maybe 12 months away Thumbs Up

Scotland 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Auto Indus Silver

Well said Pete S.
I think you spoke for every motorist with that statement.
However, you forgot to mention that the MP's need to raise more tax cash to pay for their second house. Then there is the delay to the rise in fuel tax "to help the motorist". What a load of Censored . With the current $ cost per barrel and the price we are now paying to fill up, the money-grabbers are raking in more money than ever.
I will sum up by saying "well done, Glasgow East" Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Out with the old (2007 SE)
In with the new (2012 Dynamic with everything). Now also gone.
