It's the brackets that usually bend, this moves the tank guard up. Every time I start the engine there is a thump as the exhaust contacts the guard. Also the guard fills with mud/clay, the heat from the exhaust bakes the clay, so even if everything is relatively strait the exhaust still contacts something solid.

You will be surprised how heavy the tank and sump guards are when filled with inches of baked mud

A 10 ton capacity body jack will straiten the brackets in situ, but can't find a way of straitening the center of the guard in situ, and it laughs when I try a sledge hammer. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Lol my exhaust knocks when I start in up
When I look under the car I can see guard is bent upwards in the middle
Before I fitted my tank guard I bent my tank mounts , looks like the tank has moved to the back a little

Keep blocking my rad and inter cooler etc
Thinking off blocking the bottom grill just for off road

Thanks for the PDF, much clearer than the printed instructions that Mantec sent me.

I don't know if this is considered as hijacking or just an example of keeping things nicely together ...

What would be recommended: Mantec, LR genuine or other 3rd party sump and fuel tank guard ?

I (and I am not alone I think) want to limit the loss in ground clearance, but also want to be on the safe side for that occassional off road fun

Some people did custom-made ones. Mantec seems solid - the front one particularly looks very sturdy. The tank guard looks the part, I did not install it yet. I'm sure it will handle most of the mess coming through, but there are people complaining around the forum that a) it gathers mud and then the exhaust would 'cook' it, turning into rock basically, and then vibrate against it and b) brackets may bend if hit at the right angle. Perhaps if you're really determined, even the guard will bend, but not sure if from that perspective there's a sturdier one anyway. MY2011, TD4 Auto, Xenon headlights, fog lamps DRLs, sunroof, tinted windows, almond electric seats w/ lumbar support, leather steering wheel w/ audio controls, dog/luggage guard, ambient lights, flush Whispbars, Mantec sump&tank guards, Xtrons Head Unit

be carefull with the Mantec sumguards - unless stated they dont fit the later MY13 cars - the mounting points are totally different

that said, sprayed to match the car they look great on - even with some war damage
