My Freelander has been back to Guy Salmon for some warranty work. Amongst other things I'd noticed over the last few weeks that I'd got excessive wear on the front tyre around the edge. I guessed the answer would be alignment and not covered but thought I'd give it a go. They've just called me and said not covered and they want £180 for a tyre and £120 for the alignment. I've not bothered for now as I'd rather shop around. I'm a tad disappointed as I thought an alignment issue would wear out both tyres not just the one but apparently not?

I have an identical spare (Bought from a member on here) so once aligned I'll put that one and use the scrubbed tyre as spare.

Question is, how does the price from Land Rover compare to others and also can anyone recommend anywhere else in the North Warwickshire sort of area at all?

You need to get a 4 wheel alignment done. An independant LR specialist should have the kit and charge a bit less. You should get a print out showing camber, caster and toe for each wheel plus total toe and steer ahead for the front and also camber and toe for each wheel plus total toe and thrust angle for the rear.

If a tyre is wearing unevenly something is out of line. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

I'd expect an alignment problem to wear both tyres. Sounds more like camber/castor angle, perhaps as a result of heavy kerbing. I'd assume there is some way of adjusting these (or it might involve replacing a bush if wear is involved). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Unless you drive the same way everyday on a winding road which overall favours one side of the car (like me). The high nature of the car gives more body roll and on adverse cambers this is exaggerated. The car still grips of course but puts more stress on the edges of the tyres. I have to change mine more regularly than usual for this reason which is annoying when the rest of the tyre has a few mm left! As you based in Atherstone, take a trip over to Leicester to Tyres and Exhausts Galore, on Mayfield Rd. They have done both my FL2's and the kit they have is fantastic.

Mine was about six years old when I had it checked and everything was OK. I hadn't been seriously off road with it and had never hit the kerb so it shouldn't have needed adjusting. Also the tyres weren't wearing unevenly.

I was persuaded of the value of having it checked when I went to my local indy for another problem. He has a tyre dealership as well and I think he may have recently got the kit in  GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

Sorry for the late update! Went to Tyres and Exhausts Galore in Leicester. Got the car fully rigged up on the Hunter equipment and guess what?

Nothing wrong! It's well within tolerance! To be fair Chris 'tightened' the settings up so I'm at the top end of the settings and charged me less than £30 for it with a full report. Can highly recommend this place though.

Guess just gotta live with a car that wears NSF tyres for no reason!

Yup NSF outside. It's not unusual so I've heard....add it to the long list of freelander issues!!

If your scrubbing the outside edge of the fronts, then this is quite normal. Especially the left front as you go round islands in one direction only.

The tyres are fighting against physics. Due to the high body of FL2 and soft suspension, something has to give.

Just swap them from left to right every now and then. The LR service schedule actually states to swap wheels from side to side.
