I thought the press drive embargo was still in place? How do LRM claim a Jan 15 issue is what confuses me!

Had a call

Pab's point about DS price almost takes us back to where I started up this topic.

But hey; good news is that my local dealer called at last today to invite me to their Discovery Sport ride & drive event in mid December. So it seems the early builds are soon to be on the way south! Razz Life is not a dress rehearsal!

There's nothing in the article which would break an embargo - no test drive reviews, detailed photos, etc. They're pointing out that the FL2 is an excellent car to start with, and the DS is basically the FL2 with some minor tweaks, a new body, 7 seats and a bit of bling. They're basically saying that whilst it will be a good car it's not worth the extra £10K over similarly-specced FL2. Which, as Nick says, is where this thread started.

Also bear in mind that LRM is a magazine for Land Rover owners, so they want their cars to be like Land Rovers, not blinged-up Chelsea tractors.

Magazines have always worked to a calendar different from the rest of the world, and their dates have been creeping steadily forward. A January issue released mid December makes sense, but mid November?

Finland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I just got the preliminary prices for the DS First Edition here in Finland, and to my surprise the DS TD4 S is only 1000 € more expensive that Freelander 2 TD4 S automatic. Mind you that it is still expensive at 51 729,68€

Mines booked for the 17th December 10am.

hbrotherus - your lucky there is a big difference between entry level Fl2 and DS over here. An S spec with 5 seats I'm sure would be a popular option. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Saw a camo' up mule with a trailer hooning it down the A515 near Buxton last night. I'd have hoped they'd have tested that by now...

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black

Followed a DS in white- HSE for app 6 miles on M53- looked good- You can see 'family' resemblance of Evoque/Sport ( in my view)
Whilst following DS it overtook a 14 plate Freelander and was level with it - made Freelander look very dated in comparison - appeared a lot bigger than my Evoque 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

I just bought a new Freelander and was quite happy to wait for a new DS due approximately in May for Australia. I don't think the current model looks old, it just looks different. Both have their own good and bad points.

My personal preference is the boxy look of the Freelander, whether the DS actually performs better from my point of view is a bit further down the list.

The 5 or 7 seat issue is a mute point for me as I only ever use 2, maybe used 4 or 5 seats once every 5 years.
