Hello everyone, joined today as I'm in the process of choosing a Freelander 2 to replace my existing car

I'm looking for a Freelander 2 HSE TD4 auto, probably 2007-2009MY (with a bit of luck will find a black one with cream leather)

Wondered if anyone could help with is; do Freelander 2 diesels come with a fuel burning heater? My current car has one with a timer and remote, and its something I would really miss!

Look forward to contributing towards this great looking forum in the near future

In the UK, that era of FL2 do not (Other markets do). Not sure about 2011 onwards - others on here will know.

You could always look at an SE and save a fair wedge on the HSE - a full (brand new) leather interior can be bought off ebay for 600-700 quid...

When I saw FBH I immediately thought of a special tool I am sure lots of mechanics would like to have used on FL2s. Some frustrated owners as well!!

FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

RRS has a fhb and its not a life changer, its just compensates for the bigger engine warming slower. you cab tell when its not firing up in winter it does make enough difference.
it wont fire up if fuel tank is less than 1/4 or so.

now a fbh with a remote/timer that would be good but pointless if you have a wife who loves driving around with the tank all but empty At work

No UK Spec FL2 has a FBH Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

FL2 has a big electric heating element sitting just under the interior heater matrix. This comes on, the heat wafts up into the matrix, and helps heat up the cabin quicker

Ah, so do they have an electrical system that can preheat the vehicle instead?

Is the only difference between an SE and an HSE leather?

It doesn't Pre Heat the vehicle the the FBH, it just helps it warm up quicker when you have started it.

I am afraid it's not as advanced as my Rover 75tourer which has a fbh with remote and can be programmed to heat the interior before entering the car,but then it was made in 2003!

I had a Freelander 1 04 reg with an FBH, it seemed to come on for most of the year (I never did find how to stop it) and the BMW TD4 engine still didn't warm up fully in the winter.

It sounds like the temperature sensor was faulty.

You are probably right about the temp sensor but we couldn't find it even though we looked where it was supposed to be! The FBH was situated in a wheel arch and difficult to work on too.
It was always interesting to see the forums at about this time of year when people who had a FL1 with an FBH would suddenly see smoke coming out of the bonnet in the headlights when they started up. Quite scary if you weren't expecting it.

Unfortunately people don't seem to service them an easy job once removed as they coke up badly I have done several and only take an hour!

On the F1 it was possible with the addition of a few components and some wiring mods to set the FBH off remotely as an engine /cabin pre-heater. I would have thought the same was possible on suitably equipped F2s.
