Has anyone removed the sub frames on there Fr2. I have a 2009 model and the sub frames are rusting. I would like to take them both off and paint them properly.
Does anyone know how difficult this would be ? I am wondering if you could disconnect the suspension components from the sub frame and leave them hanging whilst removing the sub frame from the car.
Would appreciate any input from the more more knowledgeable out there. I know I am making this sound simplistic, but someone must have tried it.

Well it dosnt look like anyone has tried this before. When I get round to it myself I'll do the photos.

But don't hold your breath, I will not be attempting it until the good weather comes back as I don't have a garage big enough to work in. It will be done though.

you should really do it before the winter to prevent further damage.

It's not that bad, just some surface rust. But it will have to wait until next year, don't want the car in bits on the drive in this weather.

At the moment there is only some surface rust on the front and rear subframe. As it is a structural part of the car you would expect better corrosion resistance.
My plan is to keep the car for some time therefore I will prep it best I can. Job for the better weather.

 Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Time will tell if hamerite is as good as they say, although I did remove the rust first instead of just painting over.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Did you use smooth gloss or smooth satin finish Hammerite?

Didn't know there was more than one type of hammerite smooth. Only choice I had was hammered effect or smooth. Used the hammered effect in the past and made a right pigs ear of it. This stuff goes on much easier. Also the muck just washes off much easier now.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
