Aero you are a fine example of brand loyalty Christ LR were so unrealiable back in the day but that never really put my father, grandfather and even great grandfather off them! LR's are tough and take a lot of abuse on the farm!
Had it not been for brand loyalty I don't think I would have two FL's today!

Not thinking of buying one as I love my FL2, but a friend is.....could you give a brief summary of your 'issues' with the CRV so I can pass them on? 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

My parents have had 3 CRV's - A 2005, a 2007 and currently a 2012. Mine was a new shape 2014.

There is no comparison between my fathers current 2012 and the 2014 in terms of build quality and finish. On inspecting the door shuts and inside the boot lid, mine had sharp over paint 'blobs'.
In bright sunshine you could actually see where the paint was thinner and thicker in places.
The door trims and roof lining after only 100 miles rattled like crazy.
The 19" wheels followed every dip and change of camber, to the point where you couldn't relax your grip on the wheel. The car would veer off at an angle without warning.
The boot lid was too low when opened. I am 6'1 and banged my head every time I loaded the boot.
The heated front windscreen isn't. It's actually just a blower and completely useless as I found out in last weeks frost. Took an age to melt the ice then an age to clear condensation.
The fuel tank is stupidly small. Never managed to put more than £50 in.
Fuel economy was poor. 30 mpg combined in real world use.
The Freelander has a far better driving position. The 2014 CRV is actually much lower than the 2012 model. As a result it feels more like a saloon car to drive.
By far the biggest issue for me was the poor performance. Admittedly I went for the 2.0i petrol, but having to shift into third gear for a slight incline was embarrassing. The 2.2 diesel would have been a better option.

There were good points. The boot is huge, the rear leg room is amazingly good, the infotainment/sat nav was really intuitive and it didn't break down in 3000 miles.

To be honest, I hadn't realised how much I had fallen for the LR brand until I watched my car be driven away by the couple I sold it to. I considered ringing them and offering to buy it back ! My kids (15 & 10) were really upset it had gone. I knew within minutes of getting my new car I had made a mistake, but couldn't tell my wife for about a month because the change was my doing after my FL2 broke down. When I did, she admitted she didn't like the Honda either, and told me to get looking for a new Freelie. It took three months to find the right one, and I can't wait for Saturday. I know I will probably have reliability problems, but having looked at other comparable cars, I can't find anything that makes us feel as special. LR assist were always superb anyway !

Welcome back you say "you know you will have reliability problems", because of your bad luck with the previous one is not a guarantee of the same with this one. I have had three in 5 years and it's been fault free for me in that time, you too can be lucky

Thanks Aero, for sharing your earlier decision and your subsequent regrets, before some of us possibly make a similar bad decision when we choose to replace our brilliant FL2s, instead of buying into the so far unproven & seemingly very expensive DS.

I have loved my FL2 for over 7yrs now, like no other car I've owned over several decades, it's also dare I say been the most reliable so far! I have been loyal to the LR brand for 18yrs and hope to be able to continue that way.

Good luck with your happy replacement FL2!  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Hope this one will be a good reliable car, but what I have learnt is fix it (under warranty of course), keep it and enjoy it. Whatever it costs to fix a car isn't as much as you lose by buying a new car and changing it after 5 months.
Freelander is £40 a year cheaper to insure and £30 cheaper to tax. It's saving me money already  _________________

No worries.
If I had never had a Freelander I probably would have been happy with the CRV.
I had doubts even before I picked up the Honda when I learnt CRV stood for Comfortable Reliable Vehicle
More like Boring, Uninspiring, Underpowered, Poorly built Spacious Turd Mobile but I suppose a Honda BUUPBSTM doesn't fit on the tailgate. _________________

Interesting journey you have had Aero - glad you are back with a Landy. My 2007 GS has been the best car I have ever owned - well over 70,000 miles now and as good as ever. We also have 3 new Hondas in the family and they are great cars, all British made and unlike yours well put together but not anywhere near as capable as the Freely2. Don't want to change it but if I did there sadly is nothing in the Landrover range for me now unless they can re-discover what the brand means when they get around to making a Defender replacement.
Hope your new Freely2 is as good as mine!
