Recommend me a bottle jack.....

Morning all,

I'm looking to get a bottle jack for the Freelander, a friend had cause to use the supplied scissor and well, as stated on here, it most certainly made me think!!

Could anyone recommend one with the correct travel and fitment, I know most are either a small pad or anvil shaped end. Looking at Machine Mart travel seems to start at 385mm upto 420mm, is this enough? I have looked at various threads on here, but they all talk about trolleys.

Reason I'm looking at bottle over trolley is the space in the boot, means I can take it with me etc.

Cheers,

I had cause yesterday to get both back wheels off the ground whilst doing rear brakes and used a couple of old scissor jacks but had to use blocks of wood to get the height as most ordinary jacks won't lift a Freelander due to the suspension travel. I also always carry a block of wood in the boot since if you are not on hard ground then the supplied jack just digs in. I would be interested to see what you buy.

Incidentally we have a small trolley jack which is totally useless, the travel isn't enough for a Freelander and we also have a Porsche 911 which is so low down that the jack won't go under it. Razz

Have a search for 'land rover Jack' on eBay. There are dozens of them.

I've a bottle jack (must be 20 years old) which I bought in Motorspares. Its a Draper with a 2 stage ram and the screw out bit in the ram which can be extended before pumping the lever to make sure all the available designed lift is achievable. I think they still sell them but they are not that cheap.Try searching for a Draper 4 ton (probably tonne these days) high lift jack. Might stash mine in the FL as hydraulic is so much easier. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Don't think I'd be brave enough to use a bottle jack on a vehicle with a such a lot of suspension travel.
Would only ever consider using one if lifting a wheel directly from the wishbone [and positioned close to the wheel]. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.
