And if you live down under they take a long time to get here. They must be shipped around the world a dozen times before they are unloaded. Just bought a new MY13.

Wales 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

Taz is quite correct. It's Model Year not the year of manufacture.
I'll explain.
If a vehicle first rolled of the line as a 08MY and all subsequent production vehicles had no 'facelifts' or major changes up to this year 2014, it would still designated as a 08MY.
This of course doesn't happen in practice; it's just an extreme example to explain what it means. Most VM's do many facelifts during the lifetime of a vehicle, but it has nothing to do with the year of manufacture, just the year that the facelift took place.
The date the vehicle rolled off the line is built into the VIN number.
Hope this helps Thumbs Up

Well, another dumb question from a dumb auzzie
When you guys over there refer to a '56 plate' (or what ever) model, what are you referring to. How does this relate to 'MY' ??

Mines an MY09 that I bought in 2008. They must have shipped it over especially for me. Very Happy I was close to having the first MY09 in the country, I didn't know if the salesman was crapping on at the time.
