Loch Lomand boat launch/camping

Heading to loch Lomand next year for a week

Anybody have a speed boat up there or been with theirs? And if so what's the best launch for it?

Seen a camping and caravan club site or two on the shore, but only one offers boat launch, but can't find out if that's little boats and dinghies not a speedboat with inboard engine etc that launch by cars not paddling in

Might be able to store and launch for the week at the marina were it was bought, but any advice welcome Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

not sure sure if the caravan & camping club have a launch facility, site is right on the loch on the east side. But if you're going in the summer watch out for midges, they eat you alive. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Yip , high season . I walked part of the west highland way a couple of years ago and stopped over at the above sight . We where in a tent and couldn't go outside because of the midges. They were people outside eating and drinking but the had a Tilly hat with a black mesh all the way around it , they lifted it up to eat.
Tbh it can't be that bad all the time as no one in their right mind would go. In saying that I wo go again , 10000000 bitten twice shy. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

There are a few launch points on the loch with ramps, Balmaha being one and I believe Luss has one, the big problem is that all boats have to be registered especially those capable of over 10 knts. Contact Loch Lomond Tourist Board, Avon skin so soft (the one that was sold in the green bottle) is very effective against midges, the Royal Marines use it. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

my brother bought his speedboat from Loch Lomand, and the day went up, he registered it up there and had a bez round with his son, lovely sunny day, no midges and best part was his boat was cheaper brand new than a second hand one they had in Windermere Laughing

I have seen these in Costco's before, any experience with them keeping out the midges at bay on an evening

Got one of these in the office too, but will it just attract more of the pest and they say kill one and 10,000 more turn up for the funeral Laughing

don't mine the 100% deet, or Avon Skin So Soft, but need to protect the dog aswell Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I used Avon skin so soft but I was still covered in the little Censored . The campsite I mentioned is the only one I know of that has a special room for people in tents to be able to cook indoors . It's next to the toilet block and the the wooden walls are and worktop counter are covered in stainless stee so that you can used an open flame indoorsl.
The midge population is don't to how mild the winter is , if it's cool and damp the breed like Censored . Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

If you really want to enjoy your holiday and take the 'chance' out of it, try to choose the end of May, beginning of June. The midges really can ruin a nice holiday.

We caravan in Scotland at this time and are rarely bothered with them.

my daughter got married this year on 26th July at Loch Lomond.

married in Luss church and all guests taken on 45 minute boat trip around Loch Lomond before embarking at the Cruin on the lochside for the reception.

brilliant day and no midges !!

depends on the weather whether you'll be bothered with midges. They don't like the sun or the wind.

Bright hot sunny day= no midges, wait till the sun goes over the hill, then they come out to play, also no midges more than 10m from the shore, enjoy the boat Smile my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Duncan Mills Slipway for lunching is good but there are fees. Boat must also be registered and identifying stickers or plates visible (bring wooden boards if you don't want stickers on the boat).

I manage a place on the loch-side with launch facilities...drop me a PM if you want more info for free launching. Cool

I do a bit of fishing and a bit of recreational boating on Lomond.
