Well here's the thing - I bought an 08 Freelander 2 3 weeks ago and I am very happy with it so far - however yesterday the sat nav became completely lost!! it was working but wasn't anywhere near where I was?? So today I removed the DVD and cleaned it - it was quite dirty - I then put it back in the sat nav and the following picture is what I got when I was driving on the A59 between Ormskirk and Liverpool?

You can recalibrate the position in the set up menu although I've just noticed the line through the GPS symbol....

stevep999 is right, nav unit is not recieving the GPS signal. So nav will revert to dead reckoning estimate of position from wheel tick info, internal gyros & accelerometers.

Thanks for the help - however today the sat nav is now working but the gps logo still has a red line through it?
Is that significant.

Hi Jon,
Try the following to check GPS signal levels, but at own risk if something goes wrong - saying that I have been into diag menus many times and not had any issues:

From LR Freelander 2 workshop manual

1.With the vehicle at rest, place the ignition switch in either "ACC", "ON", or start the engine.
2.On the "Menu" screen, press the top center of the screen for more than three seconds.
3.Enter the PIN code, and then touch "OK". 660: Diagnosis Menu screen 661: System Check screen (DTC code
verification screen) 662: GPS Information screen.
4.The diagnostics screen will be displayed.
Check the 'ST' column of the navigation diagnostics GPS information screen (PIN code 662) after 10
minutes have passed. There must be more than 4 ‘P’s displayed for accurate positioning. Check the
‘HDOP’ value, this must be less than 5.
Are there more than 4 'P's displayed and is HDOP less than 5?
Yes
Satellite reception is normal.
No
Confirm the GPS antenna is connected to the navigation module.
Refer to the electrical circuit wiring diagrams and check the integrity of the coaxial cable and connectors
from the Navigation Control Module (NCM) to the GPS antenna.
Install a new GPS antenna or coaxial cable as required.
Re-check satellite reception.

Let us know readings/post a photo of the GPS info screen to show levels.

Or you can buy a 2015 road atlas from Tesco for £1.99. No software problems, always boots up instantly etc, I despair of sat navs as I regularly get people come down my drive and try to get around the back of my house and haven't a clue where they are.

And you have to keep stopping when in town to read it and the only warning you get of any traffic problems is the queue in front of you.

Sat navs have been deskilling drivers for years, I was recently stopped in my village by a guy who said "where am I, my sat nav says I have arrived but I haven't a clue where I am".
I like a lot of "seniors", traveled all over the country for my job for years without a sat nav and hence know a lot of back roads and alternative routes to places. eg It's often quicker to travel along the old A30 (empty dual carriage ways in places) than the M3. I guess a lot of folks now just follow the sat nav generated traffic queues.

Agree, but I originally bought one to use abroad - try looking for an address when you don't have a street map and don't speak the language! Admit I do use it regularly but a map is a far better tool and often gives a better route. Unfortunately can't read map while driving.
My favourite bit on the satnav? Try driving across to Holy Island when the tide is in - Satnav shows a lovely clear road right across the surface of the sea! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Update - All sorted now!
I bought the latest dvd from a guy on this forum and installed it into the Sat Nav – very easy really however during the install the unit updated its software and since then I have had no problem at all. So thanks for the latest maps my friend – you know who you are!
