As we all do, I have many passwords to deal with for the various online websites etc that I use. I now have 101 in all and clearly keeping 101 different, strong passwords in the noggin is impossible. I tried using variations on a basic password but in the end that got difficult (& not VERY secure either having common or similar passwords across multiple services).
A while back I decided to try a password manager and settled on Keepass (not wanting to put my passwords in t'cloud, I want to keep them local to me).

It works well, allows me to have a unique, strong password for each site. http://keepass.info/

I just use invalid then if I forget and do it wrong it says your password is invalid

I use mSecure - not free, but there are Windows, Android and iOS versions which can sync over the local network so I can have my password database on all my devices without having to go via the cloud.

I tend to use the same password for forums such as this. Anything more secure such as online banking, credit cards, Amazon etc, I use different but ridiculous and unfathomable passwords that no criminal would ever guess without hacking. Keepass is excellent, I agree.

We use it at work, and it handles multiple users accessing the master file (using, updating and creating new passwords) simultaneously very gracefully.

I have a small program on a pen drive, never failed getting past the windows login screen and recovering passwords, they are only as secure as you keep them and there is always someone who can defeat it.
The best advice really is regularly change the password, although, admittedly I use the same one for minor log in applications such as the forum.
It is amazing that technology is not being put to use more quickly, ie fingerprint, iris recognition etc, although not foolproof must be a better way forward.

Until biometrics mature sufficiently to not be compromised and/or reliable, I've found two-step authentication provides a good level of protection.

Although not possible everywhere, the concept of "know something and have something" means it deters most casual attacks.

The minimum for sensitive / valuable logins should be a strong, regularly changed password, 2-factor authentication + perhaps an authenticator giving a one-off code.

But I agree that more innovation is needed to keep ahead of the bad guys...  ...

I use an app on my iPhone called 'keeper' and I can store all my web login passwords, credit card numbers and pins etc (in case I want to order stuff online - I don't carry credit cards on me) If I forget one, I only need to remember the keeper password.

Note: Before posting this I looked up keeper.com on t'internet thinking the website name would be the same as the app name and .......Uuuurghhh! WTF? Im 56 years old and never heard of such a thing in all my life. Am I alone on that????
