Freelander 2 starting issues

HI first post on here,I have a freelander 2 with the dreaded intermittent non start issues, when the start button is pressed
nothing, take pos battery lead off and put back on starts, then it will start every time as long as the fob/key is not taken out of
slot, once fob/key is taken out it will not start again until battery lead is taken off and replaced.any ideas thanks

p.s have read most the threads about this issue but not a definate answer, one post that did catch my eye was one by Bryan4x4 which said a wire was caught between the dash and body during assembly, anyone able to expand on this as to where this wire is..

Manufacture year?

It could be a software issue on the Instrument cluster or Central Junction Box, especially for earlier models.
Solved by a software update.

Did the instruments shows messages like "Steering column locked" when it behaves like that?

If MY2007 then update the software - at dealer, or someones that has dealer tools - and see if it happens again.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 XS Auto Zermatt Silver

was a software issue on mine a 2007 07, £50 at Stratstones for an update cured it, very annoying until I had it done - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

Will this software update fix a car with similar issues if its a 56 plate with a lower vin number than the software update mentions? Mines just started doing this.

There is a Technical Bulletin that covers this situation.
LTB00290
Subject/Concern: Steering Column Locked Message Appears
VIN-range: H113897 Onwards ??
Summary:
The Central Junction Box (CJB) periodically checks the status of steering column lock by polling the instrument cluster. On occasions, the instrument cluster does not respond appropriately and this may lead to the erroneous message Steering Column Locked being displayed even though the steering column is unlocked and functioning normally.
Cause: Software within the Instrument Pack
