Like yourselves it has not been particularly hot here in the UK, although very pleasant.
I love it when a garage says "it might be" when they really mean we don't actually know but we will try this new part, charge you a wad of cash, only to discover that it did not fix things. Then replace the next part down the line.
After reading about the multitude of errors cured by fitting a second battery earth lead I am going to try that tomorrow and will report back. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Weather forecast here in the Midlands, UK suggests temperatures in excess of 28ºC over the next two days so I will be taking a run out to see if the second battery earth lead has helped.

OK here is the latest...it has now been into the shop twice.

Land Rover wanted to look at the differential, so they looked at it and found nothing...sent information back to Land Rover engineers.

I have discovered though that with the AC on high after about 30 mins and turning off the vehicle it stopped the errors. I figure it is one of the components under the steering wheel or under the glovebox. I am going to see if I can find an electronic copy of the manual (unless someone can send me a schema of where all the components are shannbil@hotmail.com).

I will be doing a test this weekend to determine a) which side of the vehicle has the issue by forcing warm air onto the components and b) then cooling it off with cool air to see if the errors will stop. I will start with the right side, then try the left...then try to narrow it down to an individual component! Wish me luck!

Wonder if I can diagnose it, if Land Rover will give me my $500 for a diagnosis I am not getting!

Any update on your weekend activities?

I fitted a second earth lead to the battery about a week ago and even though the temperature has hit 28ºC a few times in the last week I have NOT had any problems. I decided to try it after reading on this forum about the various odd electrical problems experienced by other owners of the earlier Freelander 2 models - it appears that later models now have two earth leads fitted as standard.

However I am not totally sure it is a permanent cure as I have not run the air con lately as there is an odd noise which I think is the air con compressor. this is getting checked tomorrow and I will report back. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Sorry for the delay in replying, but there wasn't anything new to report until now.

So Land Rover Winnipeg/Canada have both been amazing and very supportive. They have narrowed it down to 2 parts. 1 - Instrument Cluster (which was replaced and found not to be the issue) and 2 - Control Junction Box. I have an appointment to replace on Friday! Fingers crossed this resolves it...bittersweet since the fix is $2100.

Since the issue happens when hot (even in winter with the hot air blowing in that area - under glovebox) and stops when cooled (AC cool air hits that area - under glovebox), it would make sense that it could be the CJB.

I had similar issues. Messages include:
HDC not available
Air flow meter open circuit
Reduced engine performance
Module A not communicating with Module X
Etc etc

In addition the engine would seemingly miss a beat occasionally. Or else, the engine would start normally when cold, but stall a couple of hundred meters from home, but would restart immediately and run normally after.
In the end it was a crankshaft pulley sensor connection that was the cause.

Sorry about late reply but have been away for some time on an island where the temperature regularly hits 30ºC but unfortunately did not have the motor with us to check on the problem!

Pleased to report that today the outside temperature soared past the magic 27ºC and actually hit 32ºC so I could at last the addition of the second earth cable could be tested and - NO PROBLEMS so far!
Last summer when the temperature hit 27ºC there was a beep and everything on the dash went out, no electrics anywhere on the car but still driveable, then another beep and all back on. That kept repeating for 20 minutes before everything shut down completely and had to wait until car had cooled before trying again.

Quick Update on the issue: After several attempts and much generosity on Land Rover's part...IT IS FIXED!

The issue ended up being a part that the sensor in the steering column plugs into...they brought in a guy from the UK to resolve it and it is RESOLVED! So happy and love the service that Land Rover gave. Not so happy it took this long to fix the issue...you would think with all the computers on board they could talk to each other to say "hey I have an issue" instead of throwing the whole system out of whack! lol such is life! Love my LR2 again!
