One supposes if the roof line is lowered and there is still room to sit an adult in the third row of seats then something needs to be lowered. Seems the diff took the short straw my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

LR don't see this as a replacement for the Fl2, they veiw this as a new Discovery so IMO should be compared to the D4 to see if it stacks up as a true Disco.

Er, nope. It is the FL2 replacement. D4 is a very different animal. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice. |

The Discovery Sport is the first car in the Discovery line, Land Rover are re aligning their brands.

I'm well aware what the D4 is, I own one, surly if it's going to be baged a discovery then it has to stack up with what is expected of a discovery. Over on the D4 forum it's being compared with the D4. The RRS and Evoque are always being compared to the FFRR as that's the perceived benchmark for a Range Rover. The Disco Sport is a whole lot more than simply a replacement for an ageing model, albeit a very good one. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200 |

The bench mark is the FL2 and improving it, in my opinion

j77, You are most certainly right that it is 'more' than a replacement for the Freelander, I think we're all playing with and interpreting wording differently.

Either way it's interpeted its a good looking, very clever car. I'm sure it will sell well.

I see the disco sport as an affordable D4 as the disco range has risen out of a sensible price range. my dealer has a disco XXV in showroom at 67k .

I see they must be dropping the numbers - a recent D4 I saw was badged "Discovery" only, plus HSE 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Disco 5 is reported to be out in 2016. I expect now the Discovery Sport is all but in the showrooms, the next vehicle you will see in disguise around Gaydon will be Disco 5
As from MY14 the Land Rover has gone from the bonnet of the Discovery, all part of the rebranding of the Discovery to a brand and no longer a model in the Land Rover range. |
