Sorry to resurrect an old thread...

I have had an issue with this today. Driving last night I lost power, inspected the air filter and it was soaked. The valve is missing.

I've taped it up for now. Does anyone have a sensible replacement part that does the job without costing £100+ for the entire box?

Many thanks.

Funny that it's just over two years to the day that I had my issue. I have to admit I hadn't kept an eye on this thread, really concerning how many cars are missing this valve.

Yes, exactly.

Separate the rubber washer part of that from the plastic part. The rubber part fits almost perfectly in the hole in the bottom of the airbox. It acts as a one-way valve allowing the airbox to drain but stopping a flood of weather coming in.

I have not checked mine lately but it all looked as though it would work fine when I fitted it. Have a go and let us know what you think. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Air box new fault

Following this thread and after reading the article in LR monthly [ Octobers ] about this subject , just fitted a K&N filter after finding water in mine and foam sides damp , HOWEVER , my valve is fitted and working , but what I did find was the intake to the box was very loose , removed box and found the 'o' ring which should have sealed the joint missing , hence water could enter from the front off the box . Good old RTV sealant applied now a water cannot enter that way . Interesting what other people will find .

As it turns out I found an alternative laying around the yard. It's a one way valve from a Defender air box. Worked a treat.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi all, I know this is an old thread but I have recently found water in the bottom of my airbox.

I fitted the missing bottom rubber one way flap two years ago. I believe water is now coming in where the air intake pipe comes into the airbox.

There is a rubber seal but the connection (after 9 yrs) is now so loose that it is no longer watertight. Rubber does not look replaceable. Fairly poor connection really.

I could seal with silicon or similar but if I remove air box I will have to re-seal. I've considered plumbers mate but messy.

Any other ideas?

Cheers, JGH99. Freelander 2 GS Stornoway Grey

Hi all,

Been out to check my 2012 HSE and found the valve missing. Purchased one of those cistern valves mentioned above, so shall be fitting that this week when the postman drops it off Smile glad to see the ingenious fixes aren't just saved for the older Landies Smile

Noticed my 2011 plate sd4 was missing this and added a plastic disc to do the job. My 2007 td4 did have a short rubber tube with a flattened end which acted as a valve. Should have removed it before I p/x'd it!

Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Hi All,

I have had an issue with this today. I was driving on the motorway in heavy rain. Then I lost power, inspected the air filter and it was soaked. The valve is missing.

I am pretty happy that I discovered this today, as I am going for a long holiday trip tomorrow. I will try to source a new air filter before I start tomorrow as the one I have is useless.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction for having this issue solved?

Thanks Smile

The "valve" is merely a flexible rubber disc (from memory, approx 30mm dia) with a hole (about 4mm) to slip it over the central spigot on the base of the air box. With mine, I was lucky enough to find the valve sitting on top of the gearbox! I made a better job of securing it by adding a flat washer (about 15mm) with a central hole that was a tight fit over the spigot.

I guess you could cut a suitable disc out of an old tyre inner tube.
