Hi Toad Yes it is over the 85% but within the legal limits for the car,but that 85% is advisory recommended by the caravan club I also have my class one hgv license so I like to think I am a capable at towing Been on the CC outfit matching service and they say Caution-Kerb weight 94% The caravan's laden weight is close to the cars kerb weight.increasing the risk of stability concerns. This outfit should not be driven by novice tower and does not meet club guidelines ok- Towing limit 84% The caravans laden weight is within the cars stated towing limit and therefore meets legal limitations ok-Gross train weight 93% The sum of the car and caravans fully laden weights is within the cars gross train weight. The outfit can therefore be used legally with both the car and the caravan fully laden ok-nose weight 67% The cars nose weight should be fine to safely tow this caravan BHP per ton:40 The cars engine power should be fine to safely tow this caravan But answering your question it is a tad heavy but it is legal and tows like a dream Came back from Grafham water last Friday on the A1 and was easily doing the speed limit and a bit more when overtaking wagons with no adverse effects |

Garfield, i too tow a large caravan ( Conqueror T/A ) which has a MTPLM of 1815KG and initially had concerns as to whether the Freelander could cope having previously towed with a RRS , but after a couple of trips feeling re-assured it is capable, i just had to change my driving style a little, but everything very stable

Who said he was speeding, vehicles over 3.5 ton are limited to 56, so would only need to do 57 to pass one. |

Actually Andy, they are limited by law to 60mph in this country. They just happen to be physically governed at 90kph max (in practice 85-90) because of European legislation, which gives you the 56/57mph. Just another harmonised Euro rule we have to live with!

actually 7.5 ton vechiles can do (not more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight) 30 (4 50 (80) 60 (96) 70 (112) 60 (96) if articulated or towing a trailer never said he was speeding just what the limits were (held a class1 for over 20 years as well ) Wales Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper. (And we have the water to wash it off, and more on the way..! ) Sd4 and chrome Ar*e piece, Auto box for best fun 09 Xs Gone 12 xs Gone HSE with Leather seats and 4 years warrenty.. staying for now ! |

I have read that the 40mph for HGV on single carriageway is up for review beginning of next year raising up to 50mph

I doubt it'll make any difference to the idiots - partly because they're idiots, and partly because no HGVs take any notice of the 40 limit and do at least 50 anyway. (Except occasionally around speed cameras, and usually not even then.) In fact, that no one takes any notice is one of the main reasons given for raising it in the first place.

So out of the blue you quote links to speed limits It doesn't change the fact that anything now over 3.5t is limited to 56mph, which is what I stated. Transport for industry for 35 years, CPC holder for the last ten. |
