4 of the Red Arrows just overflew here on their way, pity the skies are grey and cloud base is low.

If you're asking for an ID, it's a rather heavily modified PBY5A from WW2 ( Catalina in RAF service) From a time when dinosaurs weren't just confined to zoos!

Perhaps boost the colours ever so slightly, difficult on days like this, maybe loose some of the sky to, play around with it, it's amazing what you can get from pictures, certainly an unusual plane, not sure if I have some somewhere of a similiar one.

It's a Catalina flying boat - very graceful lines. Used widely in WWII for anti-submarine and air sea rescue. A great aircraft for which many airmen are very grateful. - Oh, just noticed Graham T has already identified Embarassed - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.
- GCS Hawke - Sports, BRG, Vulcan 2.1 inj'. My toy - built it myself in 2001.

To be precise it is Catalina G-PBYA (formerly C-FNJF) now based at Duxford and previously at Namaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Built and used during WW2 and withdrawn from Military Service in 1959 after which used as a water bomber in France and returned to Canada in 1974 for similar work.
Later converted foe passenger carrying and purchased by Duxford based Catalina Aircraft Ltd. in 2002. A company founded by 20 shareholders and now operated from Duxford by Plane Sailing.

Impressive knowledge what? What a cheat! All extracted from the Southport Air Show programme.

Good day out yesterday only spoilt by the low cloud level and crap weather over most of the UK which prevented the appearance of BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane but both the Lancaster's were able to be present.

Stand out performances were by The Red Arrows, the Typhoon and the second best plane in the world after the Spitfire, the P51 Mustang which gave us all a fantastic flying display and simulated ground attack complete which pyrotechnics.

If you are in the area the weather is great at the moment and the Vulcan may appear today. Check Southport Air Show Radio on 87.8FM, Facebook and Twitter.

Blimey, for part of his time in the RAF, my Father used to fly a Catalina around the coast of Scotland. The aircraft was based just outside Oban. It was used for U-Boat detection.
He took me there when I was young and showed me a large rock which they used as a 'point of no return' during take off, ie, if you weren't airborne by the time you were level with the rock, knock the throttles back. Or else!

Thanks for a very sentimental photo Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
