electrical meltdown

so in a rush this morning, slot key into car, push button and....more warning lights than a christmas tree and nothing else. transmission fault message, hdc fault message gear selector indicator flashing E, air bag light falshing and clicking, indiactors stuck on dim, so try to take key out, car wont eject key. quickly grab a 10mm spanner and disconnect battery, reconnect and its got worse, now the dot matrix display is just flashing black. so abandon car with key in and get a lift to work with the wife.
Arrange for a local expert to pop round, and its nothing worse than a flat battery, why are modern cars getting so complicated, and why does a modern battery only last 4 1/2 years?

Don't assume the battery is at fault - if it's gone flat overnight it's more likely to have been drained by something which didn't shut down properly.

If you do need a battery a very nice young man Very Happy called Npinks is selling one in the for sale section.

I had one do exactly the same, it was only 18 months old at the time, nice man from LR Assist fitted me a new one. Put his little machine on it, it printed a report out "failed cell no 3".
