for you walkers out there, I bought a pair of these at the weekend.

have only done about 15 miles or so, dry weather, breaking them in, no issues so far and must say very impressed.

I do prefer a sturdy leather boot compared to the current fabric boots.
Mine are Zamberlan Vios GTX, had them a couple of years and they've been great in all my hiking treks.
But may look at the Scarpa when time comes to renew [or I may just have the Zamberlans factory re-soled].

Hope they wear in well without the feet blistering.  FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

I've got a pair of Berghaus fabric boots with a Gortex membrane and they aint a patch on my old leather boots. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

my wife has had a pair of Berghaus leather boots for a couple of years and swears by them.

that's really what made me go for my first pair of leather boots and so far so good !!

the Zamberlan do look a good boot.

Look after the leather and it will look after you, I use a product called 'leder Gris' I get from Altbergs up in Richmond, I have had many pairs of their boots and shoes in general over the years. They also have a good range of boots but never tried then for serious stuff as my Zamberlan ones never gave up.

Some people complain that with a leather boot that over time the leather can come away at the bottom (near where it's bonded at the sole.)
But that's nothing but neglect by not drying out properly & not cleaning and waxing properly

My Scarpa GTX boots are due for renewal soon, I think our trip to Wales next week will be their last mountain outing. Must've got a good 8 years out of them, the tread on the bottom has about 1mm left on it so getting a bit sketchy on descents..

Sadly I've not treated them well in the last year or so, so the leather has cracked a bit. All the more reason to get a new pair!

Now to find some good Scarpa's that take crampons...

my wife uses dubbin on her boots and they look really good.

but the guy at Go Outdoors where I bought mine said you should not use dubbin, as although it may be good for the leather, is not good for the Gortex lining ?

I bought some Nickwax treatment and conditioner for mine, but I'll see how it goes.
