Volvo Sat Nav Discs

Having been reading up on the forum, I decided to update my sat nav and purchased a set of Volvo HDD RTI Discs on ebay. Managed to get a new set of original 2013 maps for a bargain price of 99p plus postage!

However, when I insert the disc into the nav unit, the screen comes up with a message to say 'no disc detected' Censored

Put the old disc back in, and everything works fine, so it must be the compatibility of the new discs? Rolling Eyes

It seems that Volvo may have changed the MY coverage, my discs are for cars MY11 onwards (and not earlier). It seems that the 2012 discs were for cars up to MY11.

Question, has anyone used Volvo nav discs from 2013 or newer? DENSO Part No. 104642-9070

If I do sell these back on ebay and go for a 2012 disc set, would this change much over and above the LR disc I have already?

Help very much appreciated!

Just a friendly reminder for replies, that the sites selling copy satnav discs are not allowed to be mentioned or links posted Wink  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thanks for the reply, I have been through the search results and can't find reference to anyone using discs later than 2012.

Apologies for referring to 'that site'. I didn't think I was breaking any site rules as my discs are originals not copies, but fair point I can see why you would not want to link to places that may or may not sell copies...

not an issue referring to eBay, and the reply was more directed if a member came along and posted try XYZ Site, they sell copies for £****, not at yourself

the forum has a strong stance on copyright infringement

I think from memory, LR stopped releasing disc when the facelift model came out and it was Hard Drive based, not too sure if Navteq still carried on producing discs for us older car drivers though Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

From MY13 it is still the Navteq software but for HDD versions only, at the bargain price of £171 on a USB Stick, for the newer car drivers Wink prior to that, for the older car drivers Wink its the DVD still at the bargain price of £171, all direct from Navteq, but you could use the £171 to buy a TomTom with and have updates for life.

What is odd, you can get the Discs for the pre MY13 direct from Navteq, Discocery 4 owners however you can get the updates from Navteq for MY12 or newer, prior to that when they were disc driven its only from LR even though it is Navteq software.

I know this is going to sound stupid.......but if I were to buy the updated disc from Navteq (for £171), what exactly do I do with it to update? (Only recently bought a FL2 with satnav (previous one didn't have) so please forgive my ignorance!) 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

Yours had the Reader under the drivers seat, remove the old disc, put in the new one, with the ignition on it will start to load the new Disc. After about 15 minutes maybe less the low Battery warning will come on, I've always found it best to load the Disc with the engine running because of the Low Battery warning, loading can take from a few minutes to an hour, seems to be no reason why some load quick others don't.

Yes, you can revert back to your old discs if you sell it and move the newer ones on, obviously if you put your old disc back in the new maps won be there. But if you put the new one back in it will work instantly, no loading to be done.

£171 Shocked That's why I was looking for Volvo discs, as the software is the same - apparently... And they are much cheaper.

Is there any difference if the discs say HDD on the box?

The two different types are not compatible, from MY13 the Sat Nav is on a Hard Drive and updated via USB, where as yours DVD.

Thanks ad210358, that is the conclusion I came to as well. Tried the discs again this morning and they are not recognised, so back on the ebay they go. Looks like the latest discs we can use from Volvo are from 2012 - unless you pay more for the Navtec update of course.

I doubt it is worth upgrading the maps from my 2010 version to 2012, but may invest in a navtec update next year.

from my experience on navteq updates, there's always roads missing even when they have been built a year or more before Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Talk about taking the urine, 2014 ones are £171.

Why would anyone of sound mind pay £149 + £7.50 postage for discs that are four years old Thud
