Freelander 2 HSE - Gear Problems (maybe?) 3rd to 4th gear

Hello everybody!

About more or less two months and a half, on a beautiful day, I was surprised by a problem that is now driving me crazy!

Was usually traveling at a low speed. When I went to pass a car, was third to fourth gear, my Freelander simply lost power and engine speed increased without spending climbed to fourth gear.

From then on various error messages appear on the display. Some of them:

- TRANSMISSION GEARS AVAILABLE FAULT LIMITED
- HDC FAULT SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE
- SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF

And amber lights on the panel as the images attached:

I managed to pass a scanner (VCM Rotunda) and got the codes:

-> P0734-00 / P0896-00 / P0894-68

In my state where I reside currently does not have a Land dealer, just a specialized garage with diagnostic tool where I managed to scan in search of errors.

My car is 2010 and currently with 50.200km. The problem is intermittent. If I leave the car parked for a few days to reconnect, add everything, as if nothing had happened. Hence lasts about 03 days or more. The last time I spent the diagnosis and reset errors, lasted more than a month before returning.

Asking: someone already received this "gift" of a Land Rover Freelander or in general? I do not know what to do or who to turn to. I'm desperated, if they understand me. Sad

Update: after scan and detect error codes, I've replace battery and transmission oil (Pentosin ATF added). But the fault persist.

So please HELP if someone already have this fault.

Sorry about my poor english... Wink

Thanks for listening,

Rsbuz.

I'm sorry I can't help, but just a suggestion: post this in the 'Technical' section. I think it should be there and I'm sure you'll get more relevant and detailed suggestions there. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

The RPM ratio between auto gearbox's input and output for a given gear is way out of normal limits.
This could be, like the error suggests, because of a slipping clutch/band inside the box.
A slipping clutch/band can be because of a worn clutch/band or because of a faulty hydraulic valve in the valve block.

Hello Alex. Thank you very much for help me.

Then it may be that the problem is in the gearbox? although the problem is intermittent not think it was the gearbox. I thought the MAF one cheaper solution. Or some other sensor related.

What do you think? I even open the gearbox?

Thank you!

The errors read have the following significance:

P0734-00 - Gear 4 incorrect ratio
P0896-00 - Shift time is too long
P0894-68 - Transmission component slipping

So, no, it's not the MAF, it's the gearbox.
On a brighter note, it could be a simple bad electrical contact on the hydraulic valves block, but you still need to take a look at the gearbox...
Or at least take a look at the gearbox electrical connector and, if unsuccessful, at the ECU to gearbox connector.

Ok Alex!

I'll try these solutions and pray a lot that is a simple bad connection/contact to work.

I'll back with the result.

Thank You one more time.

Before open gearbox, The mechanic cheked all sensors and cables to verify any bad contact or other thing. Nothing bad, everything ok, he said.

Now, only left open the gearbox. The problem is the price only to open. He said EU 1.000 only to open and close the gearbox over the necessary parts. I said very expensive to repair because I am selling the car.

No way for me. Neutral

[SOLVED !!]

Finally after a looong time suffering a lot, almnost 03 months, my FL2 get survived again!

Problem Diagnosis: ONE of the solenoids was locked, thus preventing shifting normally.

Procedure: Opening of the valve body box and tested each solenoid. In one of them was found to crash.

Unlocked the part, only refuel with specific oil for the gearbox AWF21. I used the MOTUL MULTI ATF specific to the Freelander and various other transmissions.

And now everything is wonderful.

Many and Many Thanks to Alex_Pescaru that show me the way to fix the problem. Very Happy

And thanks for this Forum!

Chris B,

You are having the same problem with your FL2?

Try this solution BUT if persists then could be inside gearbox.

Good luck!
