With the Nikon D800 mm lens length is not a big problem between 400mm and 500mm anyway with a 36 megapix camera.
So That is why I went for the Nikon AF-S 80-400mm f 4.5-5.6 new version lens.
It is such a superb combo I have no need for anything else, but if i did want to get that bit further I would put that lens on my Nikon D300 camera instead Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

I'm pretty sure you'll lose auto focus if you put a teleconverter on your 55-200 lens (certainly for Canon cameras you need an f/2.8 lens to keep AF with a x2 converter).

I used to have a Sigma 120-400mm lens. Very nice images if stopped down a bit, but wide open was a little soft - cropping an image shot with a Sigma 70-200 gave better results Shocked

couldn't quite reach to the realms of a AF-S 80-400mm Sad

so i bought a Nikon AF 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D IF-ED VR, might as well make use of the focus motor on the new camera, scratch my itch and see were it take me Cool

might not be as fast for focusing, but hopefully will be what I want in my collection

just need to find a smaller bag now, the new one feels like i'm off on holiday each time i pick it up Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Lens arrived today, great and fast service from mpbphotographic

A few test shots and I'm very happy, from what it looks to have captured on cameras screen, looks as sharp as I would expect Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
