Anyone notice the video of the 'transparent bonnet' concept using an augmented reality heads up display and external cameras? Looks very cool. Frankly it's about time manufacturers started putting instrumentation on the windscreen. The technology has been around for decades, but this augmented reality stuff is interesting.

Canada 2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Tonga Green

Land Rover did drop the "Freelander" name in America, Canada, Mexico, And the Middle east back in 2007. Since they only offered the Freelander 1 with the "Quirky" K series V6 (Gas/Petrol) engine in those countries their reputation was even worse than in the UK where buyers had more engine choices. The Freelander 2 became the LR2 and reliability is now better than average. They also dropped the "Discovery" name as well in 2005 for LR3 and LR4.

I really hope the don't bring back the Discovery (or Discovery Sport) name here.

re - Losing the Freelander name

LR should have ditched the Freelander name when the FL2 was announced. Back in 2007 when I ordered my FL2 for March 2008 delivery I couldn't believe the number of people who laughed when I told them what I was having - the original Freelander had a bad name for reliability and despite the FL2 being a whole new vehicle the name alone had a stigma that couldn't be lost.

Whilst the FL2 has undoubtably been a hit for LR I think the way they want the DS to be perceived (a high end 'not quite Range Rover territory' vehicle) they couldn't increase the price and still call it a Freelander.

I have noticed that one or two guys have a DS on order , stupid question , how does that work ? What happens after the big reveal , you don't like the car , colours, interior or you just can afford the spec you thought you could ? Do you lose your deposit ?

DS orders?

I somewhat doubt many ppl have actually ordered a car that has not been seen or tried yet (as a production model). More likely is that they are on an (interested in DS purchase list) held by all franchised dealers and subsequently LR. That requires a deposit to be paid in advance (£hundreds).

Once the DS is actually launched & viewable those on the waiting list will get priority orders if they choose to purchase. If they don't want it yet, for whatever reason, they can either get their deposit back or stay in the waiting list until they are ready (or the car spec is!). Life is not a dress rehearsal!

With all the mechanical similarity, Discovery Sport linked here is good. I will need a change in Jan 16 so plenty of time to sort out the bugs. Parked next 2 disguised Disco Sports at a Kenilworth hotel so looking good. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88
Current 2015 Discovery Sport HSE 2.0

cheap?

That's cheap Truffs; down south it would probably be a lot more! I suspect the dealer sets a price they believe will work with their customers; after all its an interest free loan to their business, must be good for their cash-flow too! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

As said above, you can add your name to a list at your dealer, which will give someone an early order. But as the order banks are not open yet, an official order cannot be placed as there is no model or price list yet. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Was treated to a LRE in a RRS this morning at Peckforton and the instructor said that there is to be an internet "reveal" of the DS tonight roundabout midnight and that the vehicle will appear at the Paris Motor Show.
