Is it April?

What is wrong with these damn Eurocrats, surely there are more important matters. Go to the Far East and take a look at all the aircon units slung everywhere, our vacuums pale into insignificance.
So, we will get pathetic wheezy vacuums that take twice the time.. Is it me?

Yes and No.
Yes Taztastic - you drove the EU administrators to the state of legislating by demonstrating the wisdom of buying a new FL2 just because you lost the washer bottle cap on your old FL2. Perfect consumerist capitalism. With the whole of the EU's domestic markets in recession (see this week's EU data) they needed your expertise and fiscal bravado to direct to this keynote strategy to reinvigorate Europe's stagnant markets. Well done - on this basis you are very likey to be name in next year's Queen's birthday honours list. An OBE perhaps?

No Taz - the rational behind the Eurocrats' thinking is not abundantly transparent. The vast majority of the vacuum cleaners on sale in Europe are driven by high powered, old technology, inefficient motors. Whereas there exists already far more efficient motors to undertake the same function in an environmentally friendlier manner.

Mr Dyson knows this and does this. None of his motors are at or above the proposed redundant threshold. But being the wise owl that he is, he is also objecting to the legislation because within the proposal the criteria for redundancy does not take sufficient account of the efficiency of suction across different surfaces, the noise pollution generated under all work applications, and the environmental impact of continuing the non-renewable repetitive practise of manufacturing small individual paper bags to collect the dust; which are then dumped.

In other words the whole proposal is ill conceived and should be dismissed as it presently stands.

This legislation looks like the result of most committee thinking - we must do something - this is something - let's do it.

It isn't joined up thinking and only addresses a small part of the problem as Dyson have pointed out. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

Most mainstream vacuums are old technology and its simpler to uprate the motor than invest time and labour into better efficiency. While the 'crats' should be concentrating on what we feel more important things, it is a 'boot up the arse' for manufacturers to not being so lazy and to follow Dyson's lead in technology.

They can only legislate where they have the power too, so the 'Far East' has no bearing.

Our Dyson has a 1200 watt motor and suction any wife would be proud of Whistle
