A new knob used to be about £60 as you wasn't able to buy the spring on its own.

before getting a spring or gear knob, get a flat blade screw driver and prise the bottom of the switch up and just to make sure it has snapped. The reason i say this is because on mine it was not the spring but a small white clip that had moved, after clipping it back in and closing the switch back it worked again. I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION

New knob delivered yesterday but I had to collect it today as I was not in, 15 mins later all fixed Thumbs Up
The way I worked it out to do is lift off the shiney trim it comes off with no effort under the leather shround cut the tie wrap then twist the white plastic cup thing and that drops away and the knob comes off with no effort at all, then it is a case of put it back reversing the way it came off.It took 10 mins to work it out and 5 mins to do with none of the tuging and heaving as others have said they had to do.
