LRM August - laning in an FL2

For those interested in such things, LRM's August issue has an article on laning in Devon in an FL2. It sounds as though the author started out sceptical (as usual) of the car's off-road abilities, but by the end of it:

"I now know what the Freelander is capable of, and I have to say it's much more capable than I thought it was."

"No more Freelander jokes from me."

Another sceptic converted! And this was on 19" diamond-turneds with standard tyres - with 17" and a decent tyre I reckon he'd have made the one climb he failed first time (but subsequently conquered with a slightly different route).

I read that too. It's good to see LRM covering the Freelander2. I've only been greenlaning on Salisbury Plain in mine but found it more than capable. 2020 Defender D200 110S Pangea Green

It is a good article indeed. Personally, I am of the mindset that he wanted to get the car back to Gaydon without too many scratches and dings on it.

The article on RR P38's and what causes the "problems" is also very interesting....and has got me thinking about keeping an eye out for one on the cheap..... Foraging near Gaydon....

Did lane 8. It was a fun non-scratchy one.

That looks a bit tight! I see now why he said that a Disco might have had problems on some of the lanes due to its width.

It does seem a common misconception that the disco is wider, they're a foot longer, but as mikehzz says, there's nothing in it. Fl2 drivers just make it look easy Razz

I missed the article in LRM, when I tried to buy it yesterday it appeares that we are now in September!! Did it give much information on Devon green lanes? I would appreciate any more details before I attempt to source a copy.

There are nine in total:
No 1 and 2 are somewhere to the north-east of Buckfastleigh,
no 3, 4 and 5 are in the area of Tally Ho - Uphempston - Littlehempston,
no 6 and 7 are in the Illsington area
and no 8 and 9 are somewhere to the north-west of Bovey-Tracey and near the Houndtor Wood. Freelander 2 XE TD4_e, Lago Grey, manual, MY 2010

In the article he was a bit worried about dinging the alloys. Interestingly, the rear track of the Disco is 1,612.5mm whilst that of the Freelander is 1614mm. And there was me thinking the Disco was much wider. 2020 Defender D200 110S Pangea Green
