Multitasking = (An attempt at) doing more than one thing at the same time, each and all tasks done less well than you could if you focused on the important one(s).

In other words, a gender cliche and old wive's tale.

So, multitasking is 'being distracted, pretending to cope'.

The alternative is, frankly, better. Concentrate on what you want to do. Then move to the next. Any other way is just pretending to do many things at once. ie. bo##ocks.
