Grille surround discoloured

I've noticed that the grey surround to the silver grille has some dark discolouring to the offside. It's almost as though something has spilled on it but it won't clean off. The silver centre is OK. It's still in warranty so off to the dealers to see what they say.

2012 HSE

Here's what I mean:

Guy Salmon in Coventry aren't interested in it as a warranty claim.

looks like TFR/acid cleaner has been used, have you been through a local hand wash or anything? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I wash it myself using whatever I have to hand, usually Autoglym or the stuff that LR punt when you buy a car from them. TFR has been nowhere near it to the best of my knowledge. I saw that a 62 plate FL2 was going the same way at the dealership. Nothing like as bad as mine though. I've cross posted a link to this thread in Mike's Customer Relations section.

So the first response is that aggressive cleaning fluid must have been used so nothing to do with LR. Unless the fairies come round at night and wash the thing this is untrue, unless Sturgess in Leicester or Salmon in Coventry use such fluids.

I'm not happy.

It is possible that the dealers do use something nasty when they wash it. When my MY13 came back from TVLR recently the valve caps had turned white-ish. Thought it was polish but it hasn't washed off. Keep meaning to query it with them. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

...and I've just been informed that it's not a manufacturing fault and I have not been looking after it properly.

This is just the sort of festering nonsense that puts me off returning to LR at my next change of car.
