England 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Stornoway Grey
My New (to me) Freelander 2

Hi all,

Just wanted to post up my first impressions of my FL2 HSE_e. I bought this after an extended test drive, this allowed me to try almost everything out apart from off-roading.

I'm smitten, very comfortable, smooth ride, and reasonably quiet (not as quiet as the XF 2.7D I had before it but the 'noise' isn't intrusive by any stretch). After using up the fuel in it when I collected it, I filled up, it predicted a range of only 330 miles. After 30 minutes of driving (with others wanting to have a go!) the range increased up to 380. After the next day of around only 60 miles of a bit local and motorway, the range increased to 420 miles.

Of course, this will only be borne out when I next fill up, but she is predicting a range of 240 miles, after completing 230. The XF was never getting such predicted range, unless it was motorway all the way. I would add that MPG is not a major issue with me, I was made fully aware of the potential poor consumption figures, but this looks encouraging all the same!

Last weekend I clayed, polished and waxed it - what a difference!

Issues/niggles, none really except the side of the drivers side base seat bolster has a small crack in it, would welcome suggestions here or ideas of cost of repair. The other thing being the silencer which is painted matt black. Some of it has flaked off leaving bright steel underneath, so last night fettled it up with a fresh coat of black.

Anyway here are a few pics...

Thank you all!

english yeoman, yes there are products out there. My repair is a full crack through to the canvas. I have had a go with a hot cure vinyl repair to no avail...

Rob, it was the Stage 3 Meguars Carnuba Wax. Very easy to apply and buff.

Fl2V, did you have any particular reasons for changing from the XF? I only ask as I was never really happy with it despite it being a lovely car. You are right about the colour and spec though. The only thing missing from my XF spec is the reversing camera. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Hi Phil

I have always had luxury cars from BMW's, Audi, Alfa Romeo and Jaguars, I have always liked the XF from the first day I saw one at the motor show and it on my list of cars to own at some point, one came up local to me and I was getting itch feet so I went for a look and ended up striking a good deal against my BMW.

The Xf was a MY08, Premium Luxury 2.7 v6 in Liquid Silver with 19" wheels, I was made up with it for the first 12 months then silly things started to annoy me like the build quality creaks and rattles from the dashboard, a knocking in the doors that turned out to be lose window wiring looms easily fixed at Jaguars cost as was the corrosion on the boot by the boot finisher. The 2 rear led light clusters were replaced at Jaguars cost as they had failed LEDs, other things that annoyed me were I would drive over a particular road surfaces and it would rattle the dashboard but my lads corsa SXI would go over the same road surface and be whisper quiet not good for a luxury car. I also had to do a monthly run for 40 mins down the motorway to stop it telling me the DPF filter was blocked, Jaguar couldnt fix it even after upgrading the software and changing some components that they recon was over fueling the the Turbo.

I loved to cars looks and to drive it was nice if you put aside the niggles but with all those niggles and I was quickly falling out of love with it, also when it snowed it was as much use as a chocolate fireguard and I could never get in or out of were I lived.

So it went I always fancied a 4x4 plus it would be usable all year round saw the freelander I have now at dealers they gave me the price I wanted for mine and the deal was done, 14 months later and I still love the freelander.

would I buy another XF, maybe one day as I think the newer models have improved allot and build quality has improved, what I have learnt from the experience is never to buy a First generation car again.

Mind me asking why you sold yours ? HSE TD4 Stornoway Grey ★ Rear Spoiler ★ Black Leather Interior ★ Panoramic Roof ★ Navigation with Bluetooth ★ 19 " Alloys ★ Alpine Stereo 10 Disc Auto changer and Ipod connection and lots of other nice toys ★

FL2V, my last three cars where Jaguars. First a 2001 2.5 X-Type Sport (4wd, manual). I loved that car, I also retrofitted the factory sat nav system with help from a very clever jaguarforum.co.uk member, which started quite a bit of a craze! Having reached a point where I couldn't do any more, I decided to upgrade to a 2006 S-Type (2.7d Sport auto), I loved that one too. It had all the toys, was economical and went like stink and for a deisel was quiet too.

Thinking that I could enjoy that deisel engine again we went for the XF. 2.7d Premium Luxury 2009MY A lovely car. The only problem I had was that the engine was noisy, certainly noisier than the S-Type. It was put down to the injectors, which Jaguar (who had sent down one of their techies to look at it) deemed them to be within acceptable tolerance. I did have other niggles, one rear light cluster as you, the electric windows that had a mind of their own, delaminating windscreen, two faulty door catches that I only discovered a month or so before I traded in (it appeared that during the three years I had the car, the front drivers and rear passenger side door were never locking!). I also found that you rather sat on the seats and not in them. Comparing to the previous two jags, they did have sport seats, I never got as comfortable in that car. So as you say, a newly launched car probably not the best to have.

I have only had my FL2 for just over 2 weeks and love every bit of it, let's hope it continues! 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Hi Phil

I had a 4.2 v8 S-Type many years ago and I really loved that car it was only ever in a garage for a service it was big powerful and quiet and comfortable, the only reason I sold it was because my lad was playing Basketball for England under 16 team and it was killing me on fuel every weekend up and down the country with him lol.

I hope you love your freely as much as I am and others on here do I feel I have finally found a car / style of car that suits me and makes me happy to drive as I keep telling my eldest son who can now drive and is a petrol head its not all about the speed I have been there and done it, I like the high up relaxed drive and the arm rest and auto make it an even lazier drive, enjoy your car Thumbs Up HSE TD4 Stornoway Grey ★ Rear Spoiler ★ Black Leather Interior ★ Panoramic Roof ★ Navigation with Bluetooth ★ 19 " Alloys ★ Alpine Stereo 10 Disc Auto changer and Ipod connection and lots of other nice toys ★
