I found the same as you, mine was always redlining and the gearbox could never make its mind up on which gear to choose when towing. I know people praise the auto for towing but I preferred my previous manual fl2.

Try using the command shift when you tow, you will find that you can change gear far sooner than in auto mode does to make the same level of progress, far less dramatic than screaming the engine every time you pull away or go up a hill.

Cheers Wurzul for reply had thought about using command shift, so will give it a try this weekend as I left the van on site. Also have read that a re map helps will consider this once warranty runs out it did make the RRS much nicer to drive.

Remember that in command shift the car will try to pull away in second. I see your van is quite heavy so u may need to drop it down to 1st.

Didn`t know that so thanks again Wurzel , i intend to experiment a little this weekend while towing van back home, thanks to your input feeling a bit more confident that car is capable of towing my van i just need to remember it`s not a Sport

Well Brought the van home today and was much happier with how things went car handles van with enough authority that all feels safe and using command shift where i felt it was required plus changing my driving i.e some lighter pressure on the go pedal and letting the car pick up speed meant it not red lining before changing up which meant the return journey equated to 27-28 mpg and for a heavy van that is a result , might just get to like this wee car  200 Tdi Disco ( Gone )
