Brazil 1 - 7 Germany

**If you don't like the World Cup and football and have something negative to say, save your breath and visit this topic instead: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic19968.html **

Still reading reports about the impact of this game and it is unbelieveable. In decades to come, this game will be mentioned as an absolute legend in World Cup history. Brazil were always beatable and Germany would have won even if Brazil had Neymar and Silva. The fact is that this was the first point in the tournament that Brazil had come up against one of the superpowers of world football and they were found wanting.

Alan Hansen, referring to the status of the teams and the significance of the match, rightly said that "In the annals of time, there's never been a game like this" LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

^ Nope. I've already commented on the match while it was happening in that topic but that's a general post about the cup. The match is of such significance that I thought it deserves its own topic. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Teams at this level of professional sport all play at a very high standard. Whether the results are 1-1, 2-1 or (in this case) 7-1 is often down to random events that arise in play, the slightly better run of the ball, the slightly better taking of chances etc... the differences are generally very small. It's the random uncertain events that dictate the resulting scoreline.

So, if Brazil-Germany were played again, I'd be sure that the result would be in no way similar to the outcome we've witnessed. It would more likely be a much closer scoreline. These kind of wild scores are at the extreme end of probability spectra and are rare. As a result they elicit much ooh-ing and aah-ing and much punditry (not all of it very good) but are way away from the norm and, as I contend, would not be repeated even with the same teams replaying the match.

Having said that it WAS bloody entertaining.

Personally... I hope Germany go on to win the competition.

Thumbs Up ...

Defo a freak occurence. I think Brazil were probably over-confident and their heads went after the 2nd goal. I would like to see Germany win it now. Mostly because I will win £24 as opposed to £22.50 if Argentina win Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

I've had a good World Cup with bets this time! I seldom bet on anything as the only true winner is the bookmaker. Bagged £101 on the first match and that plus the bets on Germany and Argentina are the only bets I've had. Good outcome Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I might put it on in the background. Nothing too exciting in theory.
