United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Baltic Blue

update ; the software update DID cure the problem for about 2-3 weeks! Now it is back - not quite as bad as before - but definately not right!

Sometimes it starts first time - if not the first then a second press of the start button usually does it.

Does it when it is cold and when it is hot!

Does seem to be a problem with the i6 - so let's all share our symptons and our possible solutions. If I cannot find a solution I am seriously considering cutting my losses and selling the car!!

Mine only does it when hot - cold starts are perfect.

It's intermittent with the hot starts, sometimes it's fine, others I have to wait for about 3-5mins and then it starts.Almost as though it's only when it's been running for a specific period of time and the engine is at a certain temp range.

Someone at Land Rover must know about this issue, do we think it is worth asking Mike at Land Rover Customer Sevices vis this site?

130k with full LR service history with all but the last with the same dealer!

We need some American cousins to add their thoughts to this,as they get high temps generally and do lots of miles

150000 kms -93000 miles- on my si6 and have never had any starting problems hot or cold. The highest temperature I can remember was 42C and the lowest 2C, so quite a range but not as extreme as others I would think. In fact external conditions never seem to have any effect on the running of the car. Oil consumption is also virtually nil between 12000 kms services.

So i have got my car back from Stratstone Bury and after the ECU update it DOES look like the problem has been fixed, question is for how long.
Best thing about it is the only charged me £50 for doing it.

There is something on the invoice about SSM39291, does anybody know that this is?

Fault Code is 'Hot Soak engine restart' It's on a LR bulletin sheet, so clearly LR are aware of it. Maybe not enough i6 owners to warrant a recall?

Driveability
1. SSM48277 - 11My Freelander 2 DW12C DTC fault code P244A-96
2. SSM44255 - Freelander 2 Diesel DTC P0045-19 logging
3. SSM44235 - Vehicle will not start
4. SSM43816 - Freelander 2 SI6 Petrol non start due to loss of fuel pressure
5. SSM43596 - Vehicle Non Start Steering (Steering Locked Message Appears)
6. SSM39513 - Freelander 2 Fuel Tank System Diagnostic Aid
7. SSM39291 - Hot soak engine restart - Authorized Repair procedures
8. SSM35344 - I.6 Petrol Poor Start/Stumble
9. SSM34584 - (127,359946)Code P1889-74 Flagged `Traction Reduced`

I see that it states 'Authorised repair procedures' - anyone know exactly what that means?

Occasional difficult start on 3.2-litre i6 - any further information?
On my 2006-built i6 HSE (under 65,000 miles):
Battery replaced.
Secondary earth strap installed (per info. on this site).
Nothing found by diagnostics.
Symptoms:
Insert key fob.
Press start.
Starter works fine.
Engine fires but sounds slightly mis-timed - I can always tell when it's not right.
Then, either:
(a) stops after only appx. 1 second running.
(b) settles down and runs normally.
Trying again to re-start, it will usually start after two or three tries.
Couple of times, I have done a hard reset, after which it always starts first time.
Other information:
(a) Last year it was left unused for a while and had to be jump-started.
After starting it ran as if slightly mis-timed for about 20 seconds, then ran normally.
(b) Recently disconnected electrics to seat, to mirror (without first disconnecting battery).
It doesn't like this, and thereafter more likely to start-then-die.
Because of this, and because a hard reset always fixes it, I'm thinking it's an electrical / electronic issue.
I haven't found any common factors: parked uphill/downhill, engine hot/cold, wet or dry ... seems completely random.
Only happens occasionally, and the car is otherwise lovely.
Anyone have any other info on this, or ideas? The quick brown fox

Anybody with a i6 ever get this hot start issue sorted with a ECU software update?

If so was it a complete success

Just about to book mine in for a service and wondered if it's worth having done,my car still has this issue and it's Censored annoying!

Yes it fixed my starting problem perfectly and after 19 months hasn't been a problem since - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!
