"steering column blocked"

This afternoon I have tried to start my FREE 2.2 XS and this message appears in the display "steering column blocked"

All the lights in the display are normal.

I have tried to start the car with other battery without results.

I called to the to the insurance company and they took my car to their park.

The workshop is closed until Tuesday. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Do you know what can happen?

Did you "wiggle" the steering wheel a little when you've inserted the key?

If the steering wheel is a little tensioned, the electronic locking system doesn't have enough force to unlock the steering wheel. Like on the old cars, when you turn the key you must move a little the steering wheel in order to unlock it.

Mine did this two weeks ago with the same problem of engine immobilized and message saying "steering column locked". Turns out (for me) a dying battery had triggered the problem so replaced it with a new one. The guy from roadside assistance helped me to reprogram the car with a weird and mystical sequence as follows:
- take spare key in fob and insert in door (passenger side in Aus)
- Lock door instruments flash slowly
- unlock door and wait 6 minutes.
- turn key clockwise 5 times.
- turn key 15 times anticlockwise.
- turn key 10 times clockwise.
- turn key 14 times anti clockwise.
The system is now reset.
I couldn't believe it worked and saved me a lot of money in towing to dealership. Why is it that land rover can't employ a limp mode to get to the nearest garage like my old Jeep used to.

They do. But for that particular error (locked steering) I guess they're assuming that limping anywhere with no steering isn't an option! Unfortunately, when the error is iteself in error...

Did this fix the problem for good? I've had mine body module replaced for the same error but the problem has returned less than a week later. Wondering where to go from here....

There is a software update for the instrument cluster. One of the errors it fixes so I was told by my mechanic is the steering column error message. Maybe worth looking into? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Just had 'steering column locked' message displayed alternately with normal
MPG display!! As I was driving at the time and able to steer, fortunately, it was
obviously NOT locked. Any ideas out there? Surprised

As I said above there is a software update for the error message. Its an update for the instrument cluster. It's said to cure issues such as steering column locked. I don't know if anyone else has had the software update? I had it done as I had a fuel gauge problem. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
