cheers ,seen that but seems a bit fiddly. I would of thought some clever folk on here would have made one up that works and knows the bits required, hell he could even sell them and i would think people would buy rather than pay a dealer. |

Not seen any mention of a kit on here. Did see mention some time ago of someone using a citroen fuel line primer from a scrap car, nothing else. Looking at the kits you identified I guess either could do the job. All you need, really is to ensure the filter is full (about 500ml) and the fuel line before re-connection. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

managed to find a freelander kit but at over £100 its out of my league, the search goes on .If i could just establish the pipe size then maybe one of these (laser 3463 or draper 43986) would do the job |

Surely the pipe size is found by looking at your replacement filter? Still think fredastaire's solution is the simplest! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

The laser and draper won't fit, looked into them when I did mine. I bought the small hand pump thingy on its own and used some clear tubing I had lying around, one side push fit onto the new filter to suck the fuel through, other side I poked into the disconnected fuel pipe and just held it in by hand. It occurred to me afterwards I might have been able to saw the connector off of the old filter and use that as a push fit into fuel pipe and push my tubing over the end of it.

Pretty sure I attached to the connector with the red mark (with the plastic arrow pointing at it).

I tried to make a primer kit cheaply by modifying one from ebay - draper or one of the others. Fail. Couldn't get a decent seal to get any real suction. Eventually got some out but ended up having to drain the filtered fuel out of the old filter and syringed it into the new one to get enough into it to get the system going. Can't recommend that process at all lol, but it was that or put the old one back in. It would be easier next time to get some diesel in a jar beforehand (When DIY goes bad). Still, got it done, bushman style. |
