disappearing Radio clock and no sound

Shocked

good morning..

I have a question for all you experts out there Smile

I need the electronic buffs of this forum to help me with 2 ongoing problems all related to my base line radio since day 1.

problem 1:
If I insert the key and immediately press start - the clock disappears on my radio display (the rest is perfect).
until i switch off and restart the process slowly

problem 2:
If i switch the car off (and leave the radio on), upon my return... in starting the car .. everything is perfect except the radio has no sound !
once again, if i switch off first the radio then the car.. upon my return all is perfect

I approached LR, and they uploaded all the latest software and patches, I even approached Liam who put me in contact with LR Italy (Italy is hopeless)

So i find that in this forum there are people who are really clued up (like Alex-pescaru) who can perhaps point me in the right direction !

I find this so odd that in todays day and age even a simple radio can be a problem without solution !

PS I see that the car's first owner changed the radio after a few months of ownership (i bought a 1 year old car, now going for its 4th birthday)

thank you all in advance Thumbs Up

Mine used to do that if you rushed in, inserted the Fob and quickly presses Start, put it down to not giving it time to "boot Up" did it at a leisurely pace and never did it.

to ad210358 :
I also have noticed that, but its strange that it only happens to the baseline radio !
could it be a software issue ? bad earth ?

Easy ( I have the same prob ).... its the old grounding issue ( forum search )....

Issue for me mainly occurs in the cold or if I am too quick to start the car after getting in... can also happen if I leave the key in.

I could do with knowing if the radio has a separate amp like my old SAAB did but I've never got around to checking.

One day I may get around to fixing.

Mmmm interesting back at you as the fix was a strap straight to the starter motor....

CCsnet first thing this morning i went to look at my car, and it has 2 cables from the negative terminal.. one going directly to the starter motor ! Exclamation

wanting to verify the lot anyway, I added a jumper cable from the battery negative to a good earth on the G/Box...

I could not believe my eyes when this cured the radio problem ! no more silent treatment !
I took my jumper cable off and the radio started to play up again

Bow down CCsnet you were right..

now the dilemma .. where to put my 3rd earth cable ???? Question

I cleaned the contacts with sand paper and contact cleaner, and it seemed to do the trick for now...

took my car for a B service this morning ( BTW € 395 and 89 000 Km).
when i told them of the cure for my problem (4 years now), they really were not interested and said that there is no bulletin out for it, so there was no problem ! Censored
Typical..
so off to an auto electrician i go to get the biggest cable available to replace my existing one to the starter. !

i had already a 35mm cable (0,7 meters long) join from battery to starter bolt.
.. i substituted that one with a 50mm cable (1 mt long)
the radio seems a bit better.. it doesn't do that silent treatment every time.. only once in 5 times.
before it was every time Laughing
