LR or Non-OEM parts??

I thought I'd seen a post sometime ago about LR parts or non-OEM parts but cant find it, I must have imagined it? Anyway, if you were to buy replacement parts for your FL2 are non-OEM parts just as good as LR parts, are they better or worse? I think I need a window regulator, I've seen an non-OEM part that is half the price of the standard LR which is quite a saving. Has anyone had a bad experience with non-OEM parts??

Edit- Due to my confusion I've changed OEM to non-OEM, sorry for the confusion! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Question Aren't LR parts and OEM parts for a Landrover the same thing? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I think the term you are looking for is "Non-OEM" or "pattern parts". 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

For Stevie5tapes (nicked from Wiki)

An original equipment manufacturer, or OEM, manufactures products or components that are purchased by another company and retailed under that purchasing company's brand name. OEM refers to the company that originally manufactured the product. When referring to automotive parts, OEM designates a replacement part made by the manufacturer of the original part.

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

To answer the original post genuine (or OEM) parts are a good idea for safety critical areas, but consumables might be OK from non-OEM, you pays your money and takes your chance.

I have had brake pads fail from reputable non-OEM manufacturers, never had any issue with genuine LR pads.

Then again timing chain and tensioner went on her micra at less than 15k, cheapo replacement has been on for 25k, and showing no signs of trouble.

Personally I only fit genuine parts to the FL2, right down to filters and fluids. Hers gets any cheap parts that will actually fit, then again mine does 30K a year at motorway speeds, hers does 30k in 9 years and rarely exceeds 30mph. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I always use OEM parts ! The problem is that when manufactures parts do not meet exact specification for OEM parts they go to the aftermarket channel.

With 39 years in the trade whilst some aftermarket parts will do , for me fit and forget once is my motto.

You would be surprised how much discrepancy there is in surface area with filtration and aftermarket filters can be drama.
Some years ago I broke my own golden rule and fitted an aftermarket oil filter to a Honda accord and shortly afterwards the engine failed.

The failure ended up in a court case and the court Found in favour of the customer due to non genuine part and all the filter company would offer was a refund for the oil filter but not the engine ! Jaguar x-type sport gone
Jaguar x-type 2.2d sport one of my best cars ever sadly gone
Freelander 2 GS auto 2008 most unreliable ever ! gladly gone

Have had a few problems with non-OEM parts on a Disco 2. I didn't realise the Indy I used was fitting pattern parts. Specifically, an oil cooler failed - just a distorted pipe but ended up costing me lots - and a front hub turned out to be an old design which LR had upgraded. I'd always use genuine parts for important things - maybe not a problem with trim etc, so long as they fit and match. Also bear in mind that we have a lot of common parts with Ford and Volvo, and these can be much cheaper from the respective suppliers. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Many years ago I owned a Reliant Scimitar. The secret of maintaining it was to know which cars all the various components came from originally, nobody could afford Reliant prices! Fortunately there was a very good owner's club which gave such information and even made some parts not obtainable elsewhere such as stainless steel exhausts. Series 2A 1961, 1975-78, made to last forever.
Series 3 Lightweight, 1973, 1999 - 2012, still regret selling this car.
Freelander 1, 2005, 2005 - 2008, sold the minute its warranty expired.
Defender 90 200 TDi, 1985, 2012 - 2014, paid far too much for it.
Defender Wolf, 1998, 300 TDi, 2017 - 2019, too expensive to maintain and the Army hadn't.
Defender Puma, 2009, 2014 - 2014, not a sensible family car.
Freelander 2, 2012, current, is this the car to last?
