2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Narvik Black
central locking

My fl2 has suddenly developed an intermittent fault, and when I try to llock the vehicle with the fob,the horn sounds. I checked for the obvious door/tailgate open etc, but the problem is something else. Any ideas what to check for? I don't want to take it to a dealer if possible. I am now using the key to open/lock the vehicle.

A latch is faulty, indicating it is not locked. Hence horn sounds as a warning. When you turn the ignition on the display should show you if the a bonnet/tailgate/door is open. If not check the bonnet is firmly shut. (there is a latch both sides) Then check the tailgate unlocks using central locking and the remote. Also use the handle/switch at the number plate. Check each door for correct locking/unlocking and reclosing. If everything works ok, you may need a scan at the dealer. Here's betting it is the tailgate latch.

Thanks Bob. I will check it out later and report my findings.

EDIT: I checked the bonnet and boot by closing them a little bit harder, and, it now works. Hopefully, this will be the end of this little issue.

Thank You Bob.
