Heater blowers stuck on.

My heater blowers are stuck on even with the ignition off!! I've looked on line and can't find anything in regards to freelanders with this problem.

I'm going to try and replace the final stage resistor and see if this solves the problem. Got it booked in next week just in case.

Has anyone had this issue before? As soon as I've replaced the resistor and if anyone's really interested ill post an update.

Power comes from battery to battery junction box, and through fuse FE28 = 40amp.
Power leaves junction box and splits, it feeds the blower motor and the blower controller.

When the systems says the blower should run, the controller connects the return from the fan to ground.

In an emergency pull the fuse.
Could be the controller has a stuck relay (more likely a shorted transistor) and needs to be replaced.
Or the cable that is supposed to to from the blower to the fan is shorted to earth.
Or the controller is being given a run command when none is required.

The first is most likely, the second is cheap on parts but can be expensive to find, the third Big Cry

Aandy131, thanks for replying. I was going to attempt to remove the final stage resistor tonight but looks a little awkward. It's going in to an independent landrover garage on Thursday to be put on diagnostics, I might wait and see what gets found and take it from there.

I'm not great on vehicle electrics so some sort of indication of what the problem is will depend how empty my wallet will by the weekend.

Thanks again for your help Thumbs Up

If Nissans are anything to go by I have just done the same job on a colleges X-Trail.
The controller transistor had failed - sits in the duct for cooling.

Price from Nissan £160 parts (and they are in stock!) hours labour - £100ish.

Or we did it in 2 lunch breaks, 50p from RS for the parts, and a bag of chips for my services. Whistle Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Just got it back from the garage, final stage resister faulty and needs replacing. I was tempted to do it myself but it will still need to go in to be set up to the car and I don't £45 to fit it was that bad.

However on the way to the garage my engine warning light came on and after diagnostics my throttle body sensor also needs replacing Question oh well best get some overtime in.
