FL2 SE Xenon Lights

Hi,
Got my FL2 SE on March 30 2014. All good until now.
Only thing noticed during night drives.... The low light beam drifting more towards left, I mean its clearly visible that much of the light is on the left side. Second thing, at high beam much of the light focus is tending to move upwards.
Took it to the local dealer once, it was checked and told all perfect. They checked by focusing the lights to a wall and I am sure this is no good method.
So any one could tell me if there is any way to adjust the lights ??
Also, do the lights adjust on their own based on the vehicle movement ??
Help plz........
Cheers

Dealer should be using an optical beam setter not marks on the wall.

Yes the beam height adjusts with load level (mandatory with Bi-Xenon).

There is a bias to the left so that you get a long look up the kerbside on low beam and I agree there is some light scatter up into the trees on main beam but my 13MY is much better in this regard compared to 2008 (09MY) previous car. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Hi Anil, please can you update your personal details on your forum ID page.
.
At the moment we don't know what year you car is , this will appear from then on every time you do a post.
.
For the benefit of others, the 'lights on the wall' is a quick check when you buy a 'new' car as it will identify if both lamps 'dip cut off' compliment each other; if they don't it indicated either a faulty bulb seating in its holder or maladjusted lights.
.
Any descrepancy then you know it needs sorting.
.
The LR headlights have adjuster screws for 'up down' and 'left right'
A quick DIY is to go out at night and get an assistant to hold a thick coat in front of one headlight so you can view and adjust the other. I have found that dealers and MOT stations just set them so they don't dazzle and they are still 'aimless'
The OE factory adjust from new seems fine and accurate.
.
Kind regards from Fred.

Hi,
Thank you for all the post ( Andrew, Fred and Chris ).
Heres a little feedback from the dealer. Got it to the showroom today. They say that FL2 light beam by default is little more towards left side. That's how they come the factory.
Coming to high beam, they did adjust the down movement.
Now I got to check the vehicle once during night and shall let know the feedback.
Cheers
Anil

Hi,
Well I did check the head light position on both sides. To my surprise, the Driver side one was little tilted towards left (passenger's side ). And the Passenger side one was all right and it was straight. Also did notice the same kind of head light positions in all the FL2 at showroom.
Check the pic attached ( especially the driver side one which is more tilted towards passenger side rather than being straight ). I did notice the black ring which is clearly visible on the passenger side side headlight, where as on the driver side head light 50% is invisible ( since its moved towards left ) .

Can I still go and adjust the right one as suggested by ANDREW in the earlier post OR is it wise to leave it as it is..
Cheers
Anil

The light beams need to be slightly 'cross eyed' to give beam clarity at a sensible distance forward so it gives a 'pool' of light.
.
I believe I am correct that you drive on the left; for this both beams need to point a little left so that an oncoming driver doesn't get the focused beam direct to his eyes and 'dazzle'
.
If the black 'halo' is seen on other new Freelies I woul leave well alone.
.
Kind regards from Fred.

From your photos Anil I would say the actual light fitting is adjusted too far to the left as although they are adjustable, the glass bulb plus trim is designed to largely sit in the middle of the hole. Have you checked that the fitting hasn't popped off one of its mountings inside the headlight itself? Although there is quite a lot of adjustment in the adjusters, it looks way off from centre... both sides should look alike... worth taking to another garage and having them set up with the proper kit? 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Hi,
Thanx for all your replies.
In fact there only one showroom / dealer for the entire Bangalore city where in I stay. Yup, they did open the front light glass assembly and told us that all's good and its factory default.
All the FL2 at the showroom had the same kind of headlight assembly.
Cheers
Anil
