Mi Witness HD

I fitted a Mi Witness HD 'dashcam' a couple of weeks ago. Having read some horror stories about apparently innocent parties in road traffic incidents being stitched up by lying scumbags, I decided it might be a worthwhile precaution.

One immediate spinoff is that I now drive more carefully than even before, I seem to set myself the goal of avoiding error & misjudgment. Perhaps if dashcams were standard fit, everyone might drive more carefully & the roads might be a little more tranquil? ...

I foresee a time when they're standard fit on all cars. Also, as the tech gets ever smaller and cheaper I predict people will wear them like badges, much like cyclists with Go-Pros at the moment.

Keep thinking about getting one of those, must do something about it. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

There are cheaper options but the reviews for these are equivocal to say the least.

The Mi Witness HD delivers a very good picture quality and the viewer software shows GPS data, map location, speed, forces acting on the car in 3 planes etc so very comprehensive... you can also take a snapshot of any frame with (eg) a relevant reg number, participant etc

As a wee plug, I got mine from http://www.carcamerashop.co.uk/ who were excellent.

Do bear in mind that GPS/speed recording can be a double-edged sword. If used in evidence just a few mph over the limit could cost you dear!

Actually if you have ever seen the playback from these things they tend to make you look like your going at least 10mph faster than you are and very difinitely makes it look like you speed everywhere.

So if used in evidence the GPS Speed Reading may prove that acually you weren't speeding when it looks like you were, or at least not speeding as bad as it looks from the footage. Confused

I agree with shiggsy 100% Gps speed essential and some of the cheap ones don't have it.
On play back it can look a lot faster than it actually is ! Jaguar x-type sport gone

read it only has 20 minutes of internal battery life, great when you are on a journey that takes longer. OK plug into a cigar lighter socket or hard wire into the electrics but who wants to spent time with either a cable dangling around the cab or mess about finding a live feed? even my video cameras has a battery life of several hours which is what I would use and it takes a much bigger SD card as well Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

I have hard wired all my camera,s without any problems and with a 2way switch for live with ign and without so its good in car parks.
It was easy to tuck the cables under the roof lining and side pillar and behind door rubber to under dash.
Half hour job.
I use x32g mem card and records several days.

Has been used as evidence on 3 occasions with prosecutions each time .
Invaluable and for less than £200.00 it's less than excess and saves loads of hassle and form filling.

Look at what happens to this guys BMW whilst parked in a supermarket car park !

I use my phone at the moment but plan to upgrade it to a fixed cam at some point.

GPS is not mega accurate although close so can not be used in court as it is not a calibrated marker how ever if push came to shove I bet they could work it out with two images and some maths the same way the GATSOs are checked.

On the flip side if you know your a good driver why worry.

A plus to me,
