I have been maintaining the factory spec tyre pressure of 32psi all around in 235/60/R18 Pirelli Scorpion Zeros... but clearly it is too high as the centre band of all four tyres is at least 1-1.5mm more worn than the outer edges.

Did mine at 32psi, never a problem, with the Winter tyres fitted I increased it to 34, again not a problem, is the gauge accurate?

Already a common theme developing, Scorpions wearing in the middle, Continentals wear on the outside edge, Wranglers get noisy when worn.

What's the best choice then, for a road-based tyre?

Just had mine serviced and it highlighted that the center of the rears was under 3mm, still 4mm tread on inside and outside. Checked with a couple of gauges and they are inflated to spec.

The fronts were new when I bought it at 21k miles, only done another 7K this year. Will look at buying one and use the spare. Not sure whether to run them @30 and monitor wear, as they certainly don't look to be over inflated.

frawdder, are they Scorpions ?

I run Barum 108v XL at 32f and 35r without problems, are the Scorps 104v? Not that it should make any difference. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

odds are the digital gauges are correct.

My Scorpion Zeros are also wearing faster in the middle than on the edges - the fronts seem much worse than the rears. The ride also seems much worse at 34psi than at 32psi - I've started using 32psi as standard.

On my previous D3 I went through a series of different tyres (Scorpion Zeros - wore too quickly but good on road, Goodyear Wranglers - scalloped edges and noisy - General Grabber - worse on road, excellent off but also noisy when worn - never really found an ideal - I guess it's always a compromise.

Iain, Scorpions the same dimensions as OP. The fronts have the same wear pattern, center=5.5mm inside/outside=6.5mm after 7k miles. Just checked and the new spare is 8mm depth across the tread. Have dropped them to 31 and see if it makes any difference. Looks like the fronts are wearing out a lot quicker than the rears contrary to what a lot of members are seeing.

Hi frawdder, I changed my Scorpions at 27000mls as the two rears were borderline and MOT coming up.

although there was a couple of thousand miles left on the fronts I replaced them as well.

I went for Scorpions again as although not happy with the wear, I was happy with everything else.

when I expressed my dissatisfaction at only 27K miles, the tyre mechanic said that they were overinflated at 32psi and suggested 29psi. ( but I am running them at 32psi or 2.2bars )

must admit with my driving style I expected around 40000mls from them !!
