Value of dealer servicing and warranties

Just wondering what people here think about the value of dealer servicing and warranties. My family have recently bought two three year old "Landrover Approved" FL2s with two year extended LR warranties from a LR dealer. I know that legally you can get them serviced anywhere as long as they use approved parts etc but what are forum member's experiences of getting an indy to service the car and then taking it in to a LR dealer for a repair under warranty?

I know it's different situation but I am wary as I had a poor experience with my wife's Peugeot 207 which had a £600 ABS controller problem at 27k miles just outside of its 3 year warranty and even though it had been serviced by a main dealer, Peugeot refused to make a contribution as the car had been purchased from an independent dealer and my local dealer refused to get involved!

So how useful is it to pay the extra and build up a relationship with my LR dealer?

The dealer near me knocks £500 off your trade in if you don't have full LR service history. I have had contributions from LR out of warranty due to staying with the dealer, one was a complete gearbox FOC three months out of warranty on a TD5 Disco, I usually phone an Indy near me who advertises that he is 45% cheaper than the main dealer, Censored is he, it works out about £30 cheaper so I stick with the dealer but get prices from around the area first so he knows what he has to beat. The dealer on my doorstep I no longer use, the monkeys at Longleat could do a better job though.

This absolutely grips my Censored

A LR dealer knocks off £500 if you don't get every service done at a LR dealer, yet LR themselves are happy to sell cars as "approved used, with full LR service" as long as the selling dealer brings the schedule "up to date" before sale - i.e a car could be four years old, had only a service in year one then nothing until just before it's sold. What Censored

I love my FL2 but my experience so far of LR's "approved used" vehicles and their warranty has been an arrogant, amateurish farce. Probably no worse than other manufacturers but that's the world we live in.
