Spotted a water leak under the drivers side wheel arch. Vehicle hasn't been used for a week and its been dry all day. As far as I can tell its running down behind the Near side \ Drivers side front wheel arch rear cover. The liquid is completely clear and odourless. Any ideas?
This view is as you look over the back of the drivers side front tyre.

Yes lifted the bonnet and searched around, can't see any water anywhere. Those side flaps that block up with leaves had a few leaves in them but they were crispy dry.

Just a thought, lift the bonnet and unclip the battery cover, use a torch and look down the hole. Is the plenum chamber showing any level of water?

Good call, that was it.
As Fred said, I removed the battery cover and there is a cup underneath to catch the water, it has a slot cut in the bottom for the water to drain out of. This side was dry.
Of course the problem side wasn't so easy, removing the brake fluid cover just revealed enough of what looked like a tray with water in it. Dipping some rolled up paper towel into confirmed it.
Only way in was to remove the wiper arms and remove the plastic guttering, all comes off quite easy. This revealed a tray full of water
No drain slot on this side, for some reason they have gone for a flap mechanism which had stuck shut. Why do this, wouldn't a slot be cheaper and easier? (Edit: I Guess its to stop water flooding back in when going through deep water maybe?) Anyway freed the flap up and the water gushed out.
Cleaned it all up a bit. Job jobbed. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() ![]() Hung like Einstein, smart as a horse. |
