Cotswold do discounts for many clubs/societies (eg YHA). Worth checking with any society you belong to.
Personally I hate waterproof trousers. if it's going to rain a bit I wear Rohan Bags, which are windproof and incredibly quick drying. If the rain looks fearsome I have a pair of Rohan Dry Requisites which wear just like ordinary trous but are waterproof as well: http://rohan.co.uk/mens-travel-and-outdoor...e=02891512 . As regards daysacks, I don't have a decent one at the moment but things I'd look for are waterproofness (although no rucksac is 100%) and lightness. The framed ones are often heavier. I've always been a fan of Karrimor, but that's just a personal fetish.

Oldish thread, just got my rucksack Laughing

Ended up getting a good deal on a Osprey Talon 33

Also bought a 3 man tent too Vango Chinook 300 (2012) and instead of the £200 to £250 they go for, I found it online for £157 Mr. Green

Also bought some under armour underwear and a pair of brasher Traveller GTX shoes too

(Aswell as 15cans of spray paint and some spot lights)

Retail therapy at its best Laughing

Bergen rucksack filled with everything you can think of. Full layers of water attracting non-breathing clothing. Boots made of hardest substance known to man (apart from diamonds that is). How things have changed.

Ahh, the old waterproof "crisp packets". Awesome bit of kit, got more wet through sweat than keeping you dry. I remember the old army logic of if you want to wear your waterproofs, put them on under your smock so as they don't shine and rustle when wet. Kinda defeats the purpose of trying to stay dry Smile
