So... after mucho deliberatio, I went for Kumho KL78s (235/65 R17 108) on all corners. These replaced the factory fitted GYWranglers.
After six months, I can declare myself well impressed in all conditions. They are no noisier than my GYWranglers were, despite their more rugged pattern. They perform admirably in wet & dry on road and are excellent offroad, in wet fields, slippery tracks etc. MPG isn't apparently affected by the change of tyre. And they were a fair bit less costly (at £504 for 5, fitted, valves, balanced etc at Performance Tyres) than the GYs.
All in all, I'm happy. And they look the part on a freely.

Good price, they look a bit like the old GG AT2s to me. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.
