I purchased a 6 month old Freelander 2 at the beginning of 2008 and since then it has broken down 3 times with what appears to be the same problem.

On each occasion I have been travelling at approximately 75mph on motorways/busy dual carriageways when the vehicle has lost complete power and ground to a halt. The fuel guage has indicated a quarter of a tank of fuel each time.

My Freelander has been recoverd to the dealership after each incident and I have received various explanations for the problem - fuel sensor falling into fuel tank (which has been replaced) and after the most recent breakdown, a blockage in the pump which connects the two sections of the fuel tank.

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

When the fuel gauge shows 1/4 tank is that a true reading or have you actually a full'ish tank

I'm asking as the car will turn off the engine if it thinks your about to run out of fuel (stops the engine damaging itself due to running at high pressure)

Obviously it shouldn't with a quarter tank you have to get down to zero range and keep going

I have not heard of it on a FL2, but i had it happen on a old Vectra Sri at 110mph and the car just switched off and you think what the happening, which does take your mind off the road ahead. In my case it was cam shaft sensors.

I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it, but log all the letters and phone calls made, trips to the dealers, as if it turns out to be a recurring fault it may help you in a buy back situation  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The first time my vehicle was taken into the dealership, I was told it had no fuel in. On the most recent occasion, I was told the tank did have fuel in but the blockage in the pump was preventing the fuel from getting from one side of the fuel tank to the other.
