Engine dies and picks up

Hi my freelander 2 has just started to play up, if you come off the accelerator and then accelerate the engine dies and then kicks in to life, just like you have turned the ignition on and off. Any ideas many thanks

This sounds to be the same as I am experiencing. If I accelerate swiftly through the gears, its almost as though someone flicks a switch and turns the power off and then 1\2 a second later they turn it back on again. And of course, this does not happen every time....
Any ideas?

Could be poor quality fuel in the system. The car will take over and purge the system before the fuel hits the engine. Replace the fuel filter when you have an empty tank and try filling up at a new petrol station. I had a similar problem and that sorted it out, roughly £40 for the filter and a £5 for a bottle of Redex.

Hope this helps

Hi JRT, already replaced the fuel filter and put some FedEx diesel through it with no joy. It really does feel as though some one has flicked a switch off and then on again quickly.

It could be a crankshaft position sensor on its way out. A few have given up after a few years. It is not expensive or hard to replace. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.
