This is a rather strange problem which I can't see anyone else has had. If the windscreen wipers have been used, sometimes you can't turn them off. Even switching off he engine and removing the key doesn't have any affect.
Any ideas on where to start looking?
Thanks in advance.

Great thanks for the suggestion. Having looked at the circuit diagrams I was heading towards the relay, although the other possibility is the Cenral Electronics Module or the wiper motor itself. I will try the relay before investigating the motor itself, but will post the outcome if other come across a similar problem.
A friend had an opposite issue with is wipers on a Ford Focus and that turned out to be the MS CAN circuit on the Body Control Module which I belief does a similar function.

There is a switch inside the wiper motor which tells to Central Junction Box (Body module) when the wipers have reached the park position. When they do, the power is cut.
Two things to check:
- wiper ON/OFF relay (R11, Battery Junction box)
- park position switch (pin 3 of the wiper motor)
