[solved]Wing mirror points up when in reverse!

I recently caught my near side wing mirror and the glass smashed, so I purchased a replacement and fitted it without problem ( or so I thought.)

I used the little joystick by the window to test, and yep it goes up for up, down for down etc, so all is good.

However, when I put the car in reverse gear (its a 2007 HSE manual) the mirrors normally dip down so you can see the kerb , but since fitting this new mirror it now points upwards in reverse!
So I get a good view of the sky instead of the kerb.
The other mirror (drivers side) works fine and still goes in the right direction in reverse.

I only replaced the glass not the whole unit.

Any ideas?

Reset the mirror to your chosen postion, select reverse, adjust the mirror to how you want it when reversing and save it via the seat memory settings.

I had this sort of issue yesterday.
Not much info on it, but regardless of re-setting my memory seats, my passenger side mirror STILL went upwards. It also went side ways and down, then up when put into reverse.
It also didn't return back to the original position when in drive mode.

Dealer couldn't find any faults with the car and suggested I book it in for a full examination.

Anyway, I had recently washed my car, so a quick blast of air and a spray of WD40 behind the mirror and HEY-PRESTO. It's working correctly again! Thumbs Up

There is lots on here about lubricating the mirrors and now i pull and push mine on a regular basis and clean any rubbish off,it's advised to use a silicon spray instead of WD 40 must admit it seems to last a lot longer.

This is the actual glass mirror, not the outer casing, that I'm on about.

A ten year old post, but just what I needed today after having the same problem.
Goes to show the importance of using the SEARCH facility. Thumbs Up

Sometimes I don’t want the mirrors to dip in reverse so I’ve set up 2 of the seat memory slots to have the same seating position but one with the mirrors dipped in reverse to see where the wheels are going and the other how I’d have them normally to see behind me.

Thanks BossBob

Your brilliant solution will save me manually resetting my mirrors when sometimes I need to see the surrounding area and traffic when reversing out of forward facing slots.
